While many Western markets have moved to digital software and movies, Japan still maintains a strong demand for optical storage media. The recent discontinuation of official support for Windows 10 has shown that many Japanese users still prefer physical discs for installing and storing software.

According to reports from stores in Akihabara, Blu-ray drives for desktop computers have been selling out quickly, and even DVD drives are selling strongly. Despite the digital options for upgrading to Windows 11, many Japanese users still choose the old-fashioned method with physical discs.

The WA3-K3 is designed specifically for these users, with support for streaming and Blu-ray playback via a multimedia remote control. It also allows connection to external 1,080p displays ranging from 21 to 27 inches.

Fujitsu WA3-K3 is not only outstanding with optical drive

In terms of configuration, the WA3-K3 has a 16-inch WUXGA LCD screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200, a full keyboard with 18.4 mm key travel and 2.5 mm key spacing. The device is equipped with a webcam that supports Windows Hello facial recognition and has a privacy screen. Connectivity options include 2 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A ports, an SD card slot, Bluetooth 5.4, Wi-Fi 7 and an HDMI port.

For performance, the WA3-K3 uses an Intel Raptor Lake-U CPU (Core i3, i5, or i7) with Iris Xe graphics, or an AMD Ryzen 7 7000 APU. Although there is no dedicated GPU, the iGPU performance can be on par with cheaper laptops. Customers can choose from 256 GB to 2 TB of storage, along with 8 GB to 64 GB of RAM. Additionally, users can subscribe to Microsoft 365, buy a standalone Office 2024 license, or choose an external keyboard.
