McTominay wants Napoli to sign Mainoo.

Italian media confirmed that McTominay met directly with coach Conte and advised the 56-year-old to "bring Mainoo to Napoli", considering this an ideal contract to strengthen the midfield in the context of Kevin De Bruyne's long-term injury.

"Scott has been clear about Kobbie's strengths, maturity and training background. He believes Kobbie will fit in immediately, whether it's on loan or a permanent deal," the source said.

Mainoo is struggling at United. He has played just 138 minutes in the Premier League this season, and his only start was in the shock defeat to Grimsby in the League Cup in August. The young midfielder himself wants to leave Old Trafford in the summer of 2025 to find more playing opportunities, but the club is against him.

Now, as MU plans to strengthen their midfield with targets such as Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton or Elliot Anderson, the possibility of Mainoo leaving is almost certain to open. If Napoli joins the race, the deal can bring benefits to both sides. MU reduces the wage bill, and Conte has more quality options for the campaign to defend the title.

De Bruyne suffered a thigh injury in the 3-1 win over Inter on 25 October and will be out for the rest of the year. Despite scoring just four goals in Serie A, the Belgian star has left a huge void in midfield – one that a mobile, intelligent young player like Mainoo could easily fill.
