We arrived at Tang Dan village in the morning of a day in early May. At that time, at the house of Mrs. Tong Thi Don, there were more than a dozen people participating in the construction of a level IV house. Mrs. Don shared: My husband and I are both old and sick, living with our son (not married yet) but without a stable job, so for many years we have been poor. The old stilt house, many pillars were damaged by termites, but we did not have enough financial capacity to build a new house. To build a house with cement and tile roof is still a dream.
Speaking of this, Mrs. Don could not hide her tears of happiness when the provincial police supported her family with 60 million VND to build a house; during the construction process, her children, grandchildren, and relatives helped with labor. The estimated cost is over 100 million VND, in addition to the 60 million VND supported, the family has also completed the application for an additional loan from the Social Policy Bank.
It is known that the two families of Mrs. Don’s daughters were also supported by the Provincial Police to build new houses during this period. Currently, the houses are basically completed.
Mr. Luong Van Nghien (Mrs. Don's son-in-law) confided: My family is near-poor. My wife has gallstones and recently had an appendectomy; I have continuous hypocalcemia, which causes my whole body to stiffen and makes it difficult to breathe. However, my wife and I still try to work as construction workers. Our family thanks the Party, the State, the provincial police and the local authorities for their concern in helping us fulfill our dream. The total cost of building the house is estimated at over 200 million VND, so I boldly borrowed more from the Social Policy Bank and asked my fellow villagers and relatives to help me with my daily labor (saving about 50 million VND). With a solid house, my wife and I will borrow more capital to invest in raising cows to have a higher income and a more stable economy.
Ms. Lo Thi Huong in Tang Dan village has a special family situation when her husband died in 2014 due to illness and she herself was infected with HIV from her husband. What is even more pitiful is that one of her two children was also infected with HIV from their mother. Instead of building a new house, she only registered for repairs. Ms. Huong said: My income is only enough to support my family, borrowing more to build a new house will definitely make it difficult to repay the principal. With 30 million VND supported by brothers and sisters in the family helping with labor, the house will also be solid and spacious. This is the motivation for me to overcome my illness and try to take care of my children.
Supporting labor days is the way the people of Than Thuoc commune show the spirit of "Mutual love and support" to help households subject to temporary housing demolition save costs and speed up construction progress.
Through review, appraisal and approval, in Than Thuoc commune, there are a total of 39 temporary, dilapidated houses belonging to meritorious people, poor and near-poor households. Of these, meritorious people have 7 houses; poor and near-poor households have 32 houses. Thanks to the determination of the entire political system and the efforts of households, by April 28, the commune has started to build and repair 37 houses, of which 18 have been completed. The remaining houses will start construction in May 2025.
Comrade Nguyen Huu Thuc - Party Secretary, Head of the Steering Committee (SC) to implement the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in Than Thuoc commune said: Determining this is an important program to help poor households, near-poor households, and policy families settle down, find jobs, and improve their lives. On the other hand, it helps the commune reduce the poverty rate in a sustainable way. To ensure the right target, the Commune SC has developed, held meetings, issued operating regulations and assigned specific tasks to each member; developed and issued specific plans and roadmaps associated with the responsibilities of each member of the SC in charge of households. During the implementation process, the SC has also issued documents to urge and implement the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the area.
Accordingly, on February 4, 2025, the Commune Steering Committee met and worked with households approved by the decision of the District People's Committee to grasp their thoughts, aspirations, difficulties and obstacles in implementation. Assign members of the Steering Committee in charge of villages and households to coordinate with the Party cell secretary, village chief, and head of the Front's working committee to directly review and propagate to families the purpose and significance of the movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" in the commune. Mobilize households living in temporary and dilapidated houses to be determined, prepare conditions in terms of land fund, materials, and mobilize workers to eliminate temporary houses. With the determination to complete the number of houses according to plan, in addition to State support, during the implementation process, the commune also mobilized the joint efforts of agencies, units, businesses and people. Thanks to that, each completed house has the contribution of the whole community.
Up to now, the district has allocated 480 million VND to the commune (11 households to build new houses and repair). From socialization, the State Auditor General supported 2 households to rebuild their houses (total cost 120 million VND); the Provincial Police supported 6 houses (total cost 360 million VND).
The Commune Steering Committee also mobilized cadres, civil servants, and officials of the commune and agencies and units located in the area to support over 17 million VND; mobilized 541 working days to support families in the process of building and repairing new houses. The militia force supported households in removing temporary houses through the 2025 militia training session. Some associations and village Party cells mobilized contributions and support of 180 kg of rice, 400 thousand VND and some other necessities.
In May, when the weather has turned to summer and the rainy season is about to begin, in Than Thuoc commune, there are more solid houses completed thanks to the attention of the Party, the State and the love and sharing of the community. Helping households double their joy, live in peace, and have more motivation to rise up. Believing that, with the joint efforts of authorities at all levels and charitable organizations, the program in Than Thuoc commune will soon be completed, achieve high efficiency, and spread profound humanistic values.
