On February 16, Infobae reported that speaking at the meeting, Argentine Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein expressed that Buenos Aires attaches great importance to its relationship with Beijing and wishes to strengthen high-level exchanges and substantive cooperation.
According to Mr. Werthein, Argentina firmly adheres to the one-China principle and wishes to become a "reliable and stable" partner of Beijing as well as play an active role in promoting relations between the Northeast Asian country and Latin America.
For his part, Mr. Wang Yi declared that the cooperative relationship with Argentina is based on "equality and mutual benefit" and Beijing is willing to promote bilateral relations to a new level, bringing more benefits to the people of both countries.
He also called on Beijing and Buenos Aires to continue to respect each other's core interests and strengthen the foundation of bilateral relations.
Highlighting the role of the China-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Forum in "promoting cooperation and bringing tangible benefits" to both sides since its establishment a decade ago, Wang Yi also affirmed his desire to continue developing this space.
"China does not seek spheres of influence, does not engage in geopolitical competitions, and resolutely practices multilateralism in international affairs," Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
According to the veteran diplomat , China wants to work with Latin American countries to protect "the rules of international law and basic norms of international relations".
