A university adds 3 points to candidates with IELTS from 5.0

According to the 2025 enrollment plan of the Trade Union University, which was just signed by Associate Professor Le Manh Hung, the school's principal, the school plans to enroll 2,730 students this year, an increase of 140 compared to last year. The school maintains 4 admission methods, including direct admission and priority admission; considering the 2025 high school graduation exam scores; considering academic records; and training according to orders.

For admission based on transcripts, the condition is that the candidate has a total score of 21 points or more for the entire 12th grade year of the 3 subjects in the admission group. The admission score is the sum of the three subjects, plus priority points. For majors with English, the coefficient is 2, the admission score is converted to a scale of 30 according to the formula:

DXT = (M1 + M2 + English*2)*3/4 + Bonus points (if any) + Priority points

In which, M1, M2, M3 are the 12th grade scores of the subjects in the group.

As for bonus points, candidates with a minimum foreign language certificate of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent (TOEIC 550, TOEFL ITP 463 or TOEFL iBT excluding Home edition 50) will receive 3 extra points.

Up to this point, more than 40 universities have announced that they will use IELTS scores for admission this year, most of which are converted to English scores. A few universities will add priority points (1-3 points), but apply a score of 6.5 or higher.

Previously, Hanoi University of Culture also announced to give priority points to candidates with IELTS 4.0 English certificate. Immediately after that, the school had to adjust the bonus points because many opinions said that "IELTS 4.0 is low and easy for candidates to achieve".

Hanoi University of Culture then had to adjust the priority points for candidates with English certificates when considering admission.

Specifically, candidates with IELTS from 4.0-4.5 will get 1 extra point, IELTS 5.0 will get 2 extra points, IELTS 5.5-6.0 will get 2.5 extra points, and IELTS from 6.5 and above will get 3 extra points.

In 2025, Trade Union University will use 19 admission combinations for 17 majors/programs.

The school plans to collect tuition fees of VND600,000/credit, equivalent to VND20.85 million per year for the general program and VND30 million per year for the international career orientation program in the 2025-2026 school year.

The 2024 benchmark score of the Trade Union University ranges from 15.2 to 26.38/30, the highest being Law. Only the English Language major calculates the coefficient score for 2 English subjects, taking 33/40 points.
