As the 2025 university admissions season enters its peak, what is attracting particular public attention is the significant drop in the minimum admission scores of many universities.
Some schools even accept entrance scores as low as 12 points for 3 subjects, which is an average of 4 points per subject.
The lowest minimum admission score in over a decade.
As of July 27th, more than 200 universities nationwide have announced their minimum admission scores (cutoff scores) based on the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam.
Notably, Hung Vuong University in Ho Chi Minh City set its minimum admission score at 12 points, the lowest to date. This is also the lowest university admission score in over 10 years, equivalent to the college admission score of 2015.
Not only does the admission method based on the 2025 high school graduation exam results have the lowest minimum score, but other admission methods at Hung Vuong University in Ho Chi Minh City also have the lowest minimum scores: 15 points for admission based on academic transcripts (based on the average score of the 12th grade), and 560 points for admission based on the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test.

With such low minimum admission scores, the university advises candidates: "According to regulations, candidates can register their preferences until 5 PM on July 28th on the Ministry of Education and Training's Admissions Portal. Candidates who are interested in the dynamic and diverse learning environment at Hung Vuong University in Ho Chi Minh City should remember to finalize their first preference to ensure their chances of admission."
Surprisingly, the minimum admission score at the University of Finance and Marketing has hit a 3-year low.
Among public universities, the University of Finance and Marketing caused a major surprise in this year's admissions season by setting the minimum admission score for all majors based on high school graduation exam results at 15 points. Compared to 2024, the university's minimum score has decreased by 1-4 points, marking the lowest level in the past three years.
This minimum admission score is the same as that of most private universities in Ho Chi Minh City.
The public university with the lowest minimum admission score based on the 2025 high school graduation exam results in Ho Chi Minh City is the University of Labour and Social Affairs, Ho Chi Minh City campus II, with a minimum score of 14 points for most majors. The main campus of this university outside of Hanoi also has a similarly low minimum admission score.
In addition, a number of other universities such as Quang Trung University and Hung Yen University of Technology and Education have minimum admission scores of 13-14 points, much lower than the average in previous years.
Quang Trung University has announced the minimum admission scores for regular undergraduate programs in 2025, based on high school graduation exam scores. The minimum score for majors such as Business Administration, Accounting, Finance - Banking, Construction Engineering Technology, Hotel and Restaurant Management, and Tourism and Travel Service Management is 13 points.
The English language, information technology, and public health majors have a minimum score of 14 points.
For admission to this university based on the results of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test, candidates only need to achieve a minimum score of 500/1200 for all majors. This is also the lowest score required for this method this year.
Similarly, Dong Nai University of Technology sets the minimum admission score for the method of admission based on the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's competency assessment exam at 500 points.
The minimum admission score for the Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages - Information Technology (HUFLIT) based on the results of the National University of Ho Chi Minh City's aptitude test is 500 points. The minimum admission score for the high school graduation exam is 15 points.
