Liam Delap is one step closer to joining MU. |
According to ESPN , the "Red Devils" have agreed in principle with Ipswich Town to sign young striker Liam Delap. MU has reached a framework agreement with Ipswich, including the readiness to activate the £30 million release clause. The Old Trafford team is only waiting for the nod from the 22-year-old striker.
While playing for Ipswich, despite the team being relegated, Delap still managed to score 12 goals in 36 matches, an impressive number for a Premier League rookie. His consistent performance helped him catch the eye of many big English clubs.
MU ended the season in a disappointing 15th place, and one of the main reasons was the serious decline in attack. Striker duo Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee only scored a total of 7 goals in the Premier League, a very modest number for a team that was once the leading force in the foggy country.
Not stopping at Delap, MU also completed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. The Brazilian striker had a brilliant season with 15 goals and 6 assists in the Premier League. The Old Trafford team spent 62.5 million pounds to release Cunha's contract.
Without a European Cup ticket for the first time since 2015, MU faces serious financial pressure. To make way for new recruits, a series of names can be put up for sale, including pillars.
Bruno Fernandes has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with clubs willing to pay him a huge salary. Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly been told to find a new club this summer. Garnacho and goalkeeper Andre Onana were both left out of the squad for the final game against Aston Villa, in clear signs of a squad clean-up.
MU is facing a crucial transfer period. Deals like Delap or Cunha could be the start of a new rebuilding journey, but to succeed, the "Red Devils" need to be more aggressive than ever.
