Coach Amorim feels helpless with MU's situation |
Last weekend, MU suffered a 0-2 defeat to West Ham right at Old Trafford. This was the Red Devils' 17th defeat in the Premier League this season, causing them to fall to 16th place in the rankings.
Despite reaching the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup, MU has been unable to turn things around in the Premier League since coach Ruben Amorim arrived. The recent defeat to West Ham was their 7th consecutive round without a win (2 draws, 5 losses). This has left the Portuguese coach extremely frustrated. He believes that MU's culture is problematic as the players feel that losing is "normal".
Speaking to the press, Ruben Amorim stressed that he might leave MU halfway if he cannot change the team. The Portuguese coach also implicitly urged the owners to spend a lot of money to reform the squad.
“I don’t want to talk about the players,” Amorim said. “I want to talk about myself and the culture of the club and the culture of the team. We need to change that drastically next summer. We need to be brave to make the necessary changes, because we can’t have another season like this next year. If it’s the same, I think we have to give space for other people to do it.”
“We are losing the feeling of a big club and it feels normal to lose at home. We are no longer afraid of defeat, and that is the most dangerous thing for big clubs. I think it is a very big and worrying problem. It is not the players' fault, it is my fault. I have to take responsibility for this series of defeats. If we cannot change completely, the club should give the position to someone else.”
According to the schedule, MU will visit Chelsea in round 37 of the Premier League on May 17. After that, they will face Tottenham in the final of the European Cup C2 on May 22.
