MU and the decision to urgently buy goalkeeper Jan Oblak
Coach Erik ten Hag decided to be "cruel" with David de Gea, not renewing his contract to buy Andre Onana from Inter Milan for 55 million Euros and turn him into MU's number 1 goalkeeper this season.
Onana's good footwork (which is De Gea's weakness) is the main reason why coach Erik ten Hag had to bring his former Ajax student back at all costs.
However, while the Cameroonian goalkeeper's strengths have not been able to help MU, his mistakes have made the team pay the price, losing points in the first rounds of the Premier League and even the opening round of the Champions League (losing 3-4 to Bayern).
In the Premier League, MU won 3 and drew 3 after 6 matches, while the attack scored 7 goals, Andre Onana had to pick the ball out of the net 10 times, the team conceding the 5th most goals in the tournament.
According to Fichajes , given Andre Onana's "unstable" situation, MU is considering a way to lure and urgently buy Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak in the coming months. The 30-year-old Slovenian goalkeeper is worth around 50 million Euros, although he has a larger contract release clause.
Jan Oblak was considered one of the best goalkeepers in world football a few years ago. Although his form has declined somewhat recently, he is still very reliable and could be a useful choice for MU.
It remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will spend money to sign Oblak in January 2024, not to mention that Atletico will not easily let their number 1 goalkeeper leave in the middle of the season.
Because De Gea and Dean Henderson have both left, apart from Andre Onana not being able to create trust, coach Erik ten Hag only has Altay Bayindir left.

Arsenal pursue Ivan Toney
British media said that as soon as the winter transfer window opens, Arsenal will move to recruit Ivan Toney.
The English "assassin" is a quality striker who can provide more firepower and scoring output for the Gunners.
The recent 2-2 draw with Tottenham showed that Arsenal are in need of a typical "number 9" model, always present in the penalty area and able to finish quickly.
Ivan Toney was banned for eight months for breaching the Football Association's strict betting rules, but will be allowed to return to the pitch from mid-January 2024.
The Mirror newspaper said Brentford is ready to sell its main striker when the winter transfer window opens.
The Community Stadium team is demanding at least £60 million from any team wanting to have Ivan Toney's services. The 27-year-old striker has now returned to training to maintain his physical foundation.
Wearing Brentford's shirt since 2020, Toney has been steadily improving and has made a great contribution to helping the team gain promotion to the Premier League. Coach Southgate also called Toney up to the England team.
Chelsea and Tottenham have both wanted the English striker but Arsenal are the most aggressive suitors.
At Emirates, Gabriel Jesus is often out injured. Ivan Toney would be an upgrade over Eddie Nketiah.
