'Red Rain' - film about the legend of Quang Tri Citadel

As part of a series of activities towards the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), the People's Army Cinema (General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army) produced the feature film "Red Rain" - a work on the theme of revolutionary war of great magnitude, deeply inspiring the patriotism, fighting spirit and aspiration for peace of the Vietnamese people.

On the afternoon of July 23, in Hanoi , the People's Army Cinema held a press conference to introduce and launch the film.

The film " Red Rain " was adapted from a script by Chu Lai Cinematographer, directed by Meritorious Artist Dang Thai Huyen , Deputy Director in charge of Arts and Cinema of the People 's Army .

The film is inspired and fictionalized from the event of 81 days and nights of heroic and resilient fighting by the people and cadres and soldiers to protect Quang Tri Citadel in 1972 - one of the fiercest battles of the 20th century. With an area of about 25 hectares, Quang Tri Citadel had to endure 328 tons of bombs and bullets , each soldier had to endure on average more than 100 bombs and 20 grenades . Over 4,000 cadres and soldiers heroically fell , most of them at a very young age . But those 81 days and nights have become legendary , contributing to the victory at the Paris Conference negotiation table , paving the way for the Great Victory of Spring 1975, liberating the South and unifying the country .

Retelling that heroic story , “ Red Rain ” recreated a bloody period , deeply reflecting the silent sacrifices and noble ideals of generations of young people in the resistance war against America to save the country . The film revolves around Squad 1 at the Citadel front , where young soldiers , mostly students, met each other, fought together , loved , and were ready to sacrifice for their comrades and their homeland .

The fierce and emotional summer of 1972 is told through the faces of young , brave men - young men carrying the enthusiasm of their twenties entering the battlefield , with all their faith and ardent patriotism . Those soldiers fought and considered Quang Tri as their homeland , considered Quang Tri Citadel as their home, their comrades became their relatives , and did not hesitate to sacrifice their blood , bones , and youth to protect every inch of the Citadel .

As a large -scale art project , " Red Rain " was invested in thoroughly , meticulously from content to technique, with elaborate scenes built in Quang Tri province , in which the main scene was filmed in Quang Tri town (old ), on the historic Thach Han river . The film Ancient Citadel is realistically recreated in terms of architecture , battlefield terrain , trenches , tunnels , surgical stations, field airports , defense works ... Every detail from costumes, props , weapons , to the battle environment are meticulously and accurately restored , under the advice of veterans and historical witnesses , to bring a space that is both realistic and rich in emotions .

The film combines field shots and modern cinematography , helping the audience immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the battle that lasted for 81 days and nights . In addition , the film also recreates the Paris Conference, where Vietnam 's foreign affairs and justice were demonstrated , contributing to a comprehensive reflection of the journey to gain independence and peace .

The film is expected to be a bridge between the past and the present , inspiring and awakening in today's young generation the spirit of learning about history, appreciating the sacrifices of our ancestors, fostering patriotism and awakening awareness of the sacred value of peace that was exchanged for the blood of many generations of our ancestors .
