This information was emphasized by healthcare professionals at the seminar "Breast Healthcare - What Women Need to Know," held as part of the activities in response to Pink Ribbon Month - Raising Awareness about Breast Cancer organized by FV Hospital.
Here, doctors affirm that the worrying issue is not the detection of breast cancer, but the delay in screening. Proactive regular health checkups, especially of the breasts, play a crucial role in early detection and improving treatment effectiveness.
Dr. Phung Ngoc Thu, Head of the FV Breast Care Center, shared information about a case of a middle-aged, otherwise healthy woman who was found to have a 4mm tumor at stage 0 during routine screening. Thanks to early detection, the patient only needed conservative surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy, not chemotherapy.
According to Dr. Thu, early screening helps women understand genetic risks, master self-monitoring skills, and develop a long-term breast care plan. Women are recommended to start regular breast examinations from age 25 at facilities with specialized breast care departments and modern equipment to ensure accurate diagnosis.
According to Dr. Basma M'Barek, Head of the Hope Cancer Treatment Center (FV Hospital), many cases of breast cancer that cause distress are those detected late with severe complications. Conversely, patients detected in the early stages usually receive less severe treatment, with minimal impact on their lives. "Women need regular breast cancer screenings, just like dental checkups," Dr. Basma advises.
Dr. Basma stated that while 25 years ago breast cancer was divided into only three groups, today, with advancements in medicine, the disease is further divided into many smaller groups with different treatment protocols. At the Hope Cancer Treatment Center, doctors apply a personalized treatment model with multidisciplinary collaboration, using many advanced methods such as next-generation hormone therapy, selective attenuated chemotherapy, cardiopulmonary protective radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy. In the past eight years, more than 2,000 breast cancer patients have been treated here using modern techniques, with no serious side effects reported.
Doctors recommend that women proactively undergo regular breast cancer screenings, choosing medical facilities with specialized expertise and modern equipment to detect the disease in its early stages, thereby improving treatment effectiveness and quality of life.
