On the afternoon of November 2, at traditional markets such as Vuon Uom market, Ha Tinh provincial market, Trai market..., most green vegetables increased in price by 50-70%, with many types even doubling in price compared to when the weather was stable.
Specifically, the price of green vegetables and Malabar spinach is 20,000 VND/bunch, an increase of 10,000 VND/bunch; Chinese cabbage is 40,000 VND/kg, an increase of 15,000 VND/kg; broccoli is 45-50,000 VND, an increase of 20,000 VND/kg; water spinach is 15,000 VND/bunch, an increase of 5-7,000 VND/bunch; green onions are 50-60,000 VND/kg, an increase of 25-30,000 VND/kg; tomatoes and cucumbers are 30,000 VND/kg, an increase of 10,000 VND/kg; cabbage is 25,000 VND/kg, an increase of 10,000 VND/kg...

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Huong - vegetable stall owner at Vuon Uom market (Thanh Sen ward) said: "The double increase is mainly for leafy vegetables and spices, and fruits and vegetables have increased by about 50%. Not only are the prices high but the supply of vegetables is limited, so I have to go to the wholesale market earlier than usual to get goods and have good vegetables to sell, because the rainy weather makes vegetables easily crushed and damaged.
We sellers don't want to increase prices either, but imported goods are already high, we can't sell at a loss. The worst part is that customers find it expensive and are reluctant to buy, thinking we're arbitrarily raising prices based on the weather.

Many housewives said that the high price of vegetables has caused the cost of daily shopping to skyrocket. Many families have had to recalculate their spending, choose to reduce the amount of vegetables they buy, or switch to using other fruits and vegetables instead.
Ms. Tran Thi Ha (Ha Huy Tap ward) shared: “Before, my family of 4 only spent about 30,000 VND to buy vegetables for the whole day, but now we have to spend double. Yesterday, my family had hot pot, bought 2 bunches of green mustard greens and 3 bunches of Malabar spinach for 115,000 VND. I was surprised because on a normal day, the total amount of vegetables would only cost about 50,000 VND, which is high. I see that the prices of vegetables and fruits are less volatile and easier to preserve, so I will balance and replace green vegetables with radishes, kohlrabi, eggplant... for my family's meals.”

Not only in the traditional markets, but also in Binh Huong wholesale market (Tran Phu ward) - considered the largest supplier for small traders in the province, vegetable prices have also increased significantly. Although "softer" than in retail markets, the prices are still much higher than before, including the wholesale and retail areas.
Ms. Phan Thi Hue - a vegetable and fruit wholesaler at Binh Huong market said: "I mainly sell vegetables and fruits imported from many different sources such as Lam Dong , Nghe An, and the northern provinces. In recent weeks, floods everywhere have made it impossible for growing areas to cultivate and produce, and supply is limited, so vegetable prices have increased compared to normal days. Currently, vegetables such as cabbage, bell peppers, Chinese cabbage, radishes, etc. have all increased by about 5,000-10,000 VND/kg. When customers come to buy, I have to inform them in advance so they know the price has increased."

According to traders, the price of green vegetables has increased since storms No. 5 and No. 10 occurred in the province. This time, vegetable prices have started to increase sharply for about 3 weeks, since floods occurred in the northern region and have continued to increase sharply in the past few days due to heavy rains in the province. The reason is that flooding in vegetable growing areas has caused a serious decrease in output. In addition, difficult roads and high transportation costs have caused vegetable prices to increase many times before reaching consumers.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tho - a vegetable vendor at Ha Tinh provincial market (Thanh Sen ward) said: "Due to the continuous heavy rain for a long time, vegetable villages in the province cannot produce and are damaged and flooded. Imports from other provinces and cities are also affected by the rain and floods. Vehicles transporting goods have difficulty moving, transportation costs have increased, so prices have had to increase. Vegetable prices are expensive, so customers are more calculating and balanced. We just hope that the weather will clear up, there will be more vegetables, and prices will return to normal, then both buyers and sellers will be happy."

According to traders’ forecasts, with the current weather conditions, it will take more than a month for farmers to restore production to supply vegetables to the market. This means that in the coming time, the scarcity of green vegetables will not improve and the price of this item will continue to remain high.
