According to the provincial Hydrometeorological Station, there were places in the province where heavy rain fell on the night of May 28 and early morning of May 29. The period of very heavy rain lasted from 10:00 p.m. on May 28 to 2:00 a.m. on May 29. The total rainfall measured in many places exceeded 100mm. Specifically, in My Xuan ward (Phu My city) it was 156.6mm; Long Son commune and ward 7 (Vung Tau city) from 110.7-135.6mm...
Heavy rain caused severe flooding in many areas, especially Highway 51 in front of Phu My City People's Committee to the intersection of My Xuan B1 Industrial Park - Highway 51 and roads near Highway 51... Some areas were flooded about 30-40cm deep. Many cars near the 18-storey social housing apartment building (Phu My ward) had water entering their cars and the driver's compartment.
Heavy rain at night caused deep flooding, causing many cars parked near the 18-story social housing apartment building in Phu My City to be flooded, water overflowing into the cars. |
In Vung Tau City, heavy rain also caused local flooding on some streets such as: 2/9, 30/4, Ngo Quyen, Thi Sach... with water levels measured from 30-40cm. In particular, Vo Nguyen Giap Street near the foot of Co May Bridge was heavily flooded, until 8am the water had not receded in time, causing traffic difficulties and prolonged congestion.
At 8:00 a.m. on May 29, although the rain had stopped for a long time, Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Vung Tau City, near the foot of Co May Bridge, was still heavily flooded, making it difficult for many vehicles to move. |
According to authorities, the cause of severe flooding on National Highway 51 through Phu My City was due to heavy rain, along with the fact that this route is under construction and does not have a complete drainage system.
Other flooded areas in Vung Tau City are low-lying areas, and in the past two years the drainage system in the province has not been dredged or cleared, so when it rains heavily, the water accumulates, leading to not being able to drain in time.
