On March 21, the People's Court of Kien Giang province sentenced defendant Trinh Thanh Giang (37 years old, residing in Ha Tien city, Kien Giang) to 24 months in prison for illegally possessing military weapons.

According to the indictment and the defendant's testimony in court, on the afternoon of July 29, 2022, My Duc Ward Police, Ha Tien City, administratively inspected Giang's house in Group 2, Thach Dong Quarter, My Duc Ward, and discovered that Giang and his "common-law wife" Thai Thi Truc Linh were illegally using drugs.
Here, the police confiscated from Giang a pistol, 6 bullets and 3 homemade knives.
Giang said he specializes in providing and transporting female waitresses to serve customers at karaoke bars and drinking establishments in Ha Tien City. Fearing that customers would beat him, Giang asked a man in An Giang to buy him a gun worth 4.3 million VND for self-defense.
According to the appraisal results of the authorities, this gun is a military weapon.
In addition to serving a two-year prison sentence for the above crime, Giang is being prosecuted for organizing illegal drug use.
