A VNA correspondent in Brussels reported that on June 12, the European Commission (EC) published Regulation No. 2024/1662 signed on June 11, 2024, on reviewing and applying additional inspection measures and emergency measures to manage the import of agricultural products and foodstuffs from third countries into the EU according to Regulation 2019/1973. Accordingly, Vietnam's instant noodles are removed from food safety control in the EU because they meet EU regulations. This regulation takes effect from July 2, 2024.
However, the frequency of border inspections for Vietnamese instant noodles is still maintained at 20%. Enterprises exporting instant noodles to the EU need to ensure that their products meet food safety requirements according to EU regulations.
According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Quan, Vietnam Trade Counselor in the Kingdom of Belgium and the EU, this is the result of the tireless efforts of the Ministry of Industry and Trade , relevant authorities and businesses in improving the quality and ensuring food safety for instant noodle products exported to the EU.
Being removed from food safety control is an important step, helping Vietnamese instant noodles easily access the EU market, which has great potential with more than 450 million people. This is also a testament to Vietnam's efforts in building a national brand for agricultural products.
In addition to instant noodles, the EU has also adjusted inspection regulations for a number of other Vietnamese agricultural products. For dragon fruit, the frequency of border inspections has been increased from 20% to 30%. Chili peppers have been moved from Appendix I (50% control) to Appendix II (50% control and accompanied by a Food Safety Certificate, results of analysis and testing of residual pesticides in the product). Okra has been kept at 50% inspection frequency and accompanied by a Food Safety Certificate, results of analysis and testing of residual pesticides in the product. Durian has remained at 10% inspection frequency.
The EU’s adjustment of inspection regulations for Vietnamese agricultural products is a positive signal showing the EU’s trust in Vietnam’s food quality and safety. Vietnamese enterprises need to continue to make efforts to improve product quality to meet the increasingly high requirements of the EU market.
