On July 25, the US Department of Defense announced that the country will provide additional security assistance to Ukraine worth up to $400 million.
The new aid will include Hornet unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) made by FLIR Systems, anti-aircraft ammunition, armored vehicles and anti-tank weapons.
Among these weapons, the Hornet UAV will be sent to Ukraine for the first time.
According to information previously published by the US media, this aid package also includes missiles for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and the NASA Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS), as well as Stingers and Javelins.
In addition, the US will also provide artillery shells and 32 Stryker tanks, along with explosive devices, mortars, Hydra-70 rockets and 28 million rounds of small arms ammunition.
The US deployed this aid package using Presidential Drawing Authority (PDA), which allows the US government to transfer items and services from the stockpile quickly without congressional approval in an emergency.
This is the 43rd security assistance package from the US to Ukraine. The US has provided more than $43 billion in military aid to Ukraine since the conflict in Ukraine broke out last February.
On the same day, the European Union (EU) and Norway signed an agreement to transfer Norway's voluntary financial contribution to the European Peace Mechanism (EPF) to provide military equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Responding to Ukraine's needs, Norway earmarked this money to supply ammunition and spare parts for Leopard II tanks.
On February 14, the Norwegian Government announced its decision to support Ukraine through the EPF with a voluntary financial contribution of NOK 250 million (approximately 22 million euros). The signing on July 25 formalized this decision.
This is the second time Norway has made a financial contribution to the EPF, after the first time in October 2022, thereby bringing the total contribution to NOK 400 million (equivalent to 36.5 million euros)./.
