Pravda quoted an anonymous senior US defense official on February 16 as saying that the nearly two-year special military campaign in Ukraine has cost Russia up to 211 billion USD.
The Pentagon also estimates that the conflict will cost the Russian economy $1.3 trillion by 2026. According to Reuters, Russia has already lost more than $10 billion due to canceled or postponed arms deals.
The US official added that the number of Russian soldiers killed and wounded in Ukraine is about 315,000.
Russia could sustain the conflict in Ukraine for “another two to three years,” but would have to sacrifice “quality for quantity” as it replaces destroyed or damaged weapons with older systems held in storage, according to a report published this week by the UK-based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).
The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) also released a report this week stating: "Russia still maintains its strategic goal of controlling Ukrainian territories and they believe they are winning."
