Developing honorary membership is a special new point in the Charter of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) at the 13th National Women's Congress. Accordingly, honorary members can be men. Ninh Giang commune is the first unit of Hoa Lu district to implement this recognition, contributing to the movements and activities of the Women's Union.

Before being recognized as an honorary member of the Vietnam Women's Union, Mr. Le Thuong Xuyen, Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Ninh Giang commune, had many years of accompanying and being attached to the activities of the local Women's Union.

Mr. Xuyen shared: "As a member of the Party Committee Executive Committee, I advised the Party Committee Standing Committee to direct the Women's Union of the commune to successfully launch the model of "Green House", "Family of 5 haves, 3 cleans", Model Association in Phong Phu village, advised the Party Committee Standing Committee to direct cadres and civil servants of all sectors to participate in dialogue conferences between leaders of the Women's Union of the commune, relevant sectors with cadres and women members...

The time spent participating in local Association activities helped Mr. Xuyen understand the thoughts and aspirations of members and women as well as what needs to be done for the advancement of women.

Being recognized as an honorary member of the Vietnam Women's Union, according to Mr. Xuyen, is both an honor and a responsibility. "From now on, the Ninh Giang Women's Union will have 16 more honorary male members. I hope that in the coming time, the Union will create conditions for us to promote our role as members. Personally, I will continue to participate and support the Union's activities, creating all conditions for female cadres and members to promote their strengths and express their thoughts and aspirations," Mr. Xuyen expressed.

Like Mr. Le Thuong Xuyen, Mr. Vu Van Su, Party Secretary of Bai Tru village, volunteered to join and became an honorary member of the Women's Union.

Mr. Su said: "When I first heard the name "honorary member of the Women's Union is male", I was quite surprised and unfamiliar. But after the sisters explained, I understood and realized that these are all the things I have been doing.

In fact, over the past many years, I and other male members in the village have actively and regularly supported the activities of the Women's Union such as participating in planting flower gardens, flower roads, collecting waste... In addition, cultural, artistic and sports activities organized by the Women's Union and the Commune Women's Union always receive the enthusiastic participation and support of us men."

Men are honorary members who contribute to the development of the women's movement and the Association's activities.
Awarding the decision to recognize honorary members of the Vietnam Women's Union to 16 men in Ninh Giang commune.

At the end of September, the Ninh Giang Women's Union held a ceremony to recognize 16 men as honorary members of the Vietnam Women's Union. Comrade Sam Thi Hanh, President of the Ninh Giang Women's Union, said: "Following the direction of the District Women's Union, the Commune Women's Union has conducted a field review, compared the standards to become honorary members, and met and grasped the thoughts and aspirations of individuals. Thereby, recognizing 16 men who meet the conditions, standards, and wish to become honorary members of the Vietnam Women's Union.

These are all prestigious comrades in the locality, working in many positions such as Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Council, Commander of the Commune Military Command, Chairman of the Veterans Association, Chairman of the Commune Farmers' Association, Commune Civil Judicial Officer, Party cell secretary, village and hamlet chief... They have made many contributions and had a positive impact on the work of the Association and the women's movement."

In Hoa Lu district in general and Ninh Giang commune in particular, in recent times, the women's movement has received strong support from male individuals. Their participation and contribution play an active role in activities organized by the Women's Union at all levels.

Comrade Pham Thi Kim Oanh, President of the Hoa Lu District Women's Union, shared: "The Women's Union is a political and social organization with gender specificities. However, from a practical perspective, we see that we should not limit the membership. The Union also needs members (who can be men) to accompany the Union's activities, as well as actively contribute to gender equality work.

The participation of male members will help women's activities no longer be "alone" and only have gender factors, but beside them, there will be male members to support, encourage, and move the association movement forward.

We hope that the honorary members will actively support and accompany the cadres and female members of Hoa Lu district, contributing to building an increasingly strong Association, for the goal of gender equality and for the advancement of women."

From the pilot model in Ninh Giang commune, communes and towns in the district will continue to mobilize and admit honorary members. Cadres, women members and honorary members all believe that, with the participation, support and assistance of honorary members, the women's movement and the Association's activities in the locality will become more profound and effective.
