National Highway 53 through Vinh Long province |
On August 16, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) announced that it had prepared a pre-feasibility study report for the project to upgrade and renovate three national highways, including National Highway 53, National Highway 62, and National Highway 91B in the Mekong Delta region. This is a project that the Ministry is striving to start in 2025 in order to gradually complete the road traffic network connecting provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region.
In addition, the Ministry of Transport has also submitted the investment policy to the Prime Minister for approval, and will focus on implementing the next steps to strive to start the project in 2025 and complete it in 2027.
It is known that National Highway 62 is invested in upgrading and renovating the section from Km4 + 200 (intersection with Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway) to Km74 with an investment length of about 69km, in Long An province.
National Highway 53 is proposed to upgrade Nga Tu bridge (Km7 + 820 – Km8 + 730); Long Ho – Ba Si section (Km11 + 295 – Km56 + 180) with a total investment length of about 41km, in Vinh Long and Tra Vinh provinces.
National Highway 91B will be upgraded from Km2 + 604 (Can Tho Bridge 5-way intersection) - Km143 + 480 with an investment length of about 141km, in Can Tho city, Hau Giang, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu provinces.
All three national highways have been upgraded and renovated to meet the standards of a grade 3 plain road, with a design speed of 80km/h; the roadbed cross-section is 12m wide, the road surface is 11m wide, including 2 lanes for motor vehicles, 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles, and the pavement is 0.5m wide on each side. Some sections through urban areas, towns, and townships have ensured that the scale remains the same as the current status.
According to the calculation of the Ministry of Transport, the total preliminary investment of the project is about 9,329.9 billion VND, of which the loan capital of the World Bank (WB) is about 6,285.37 billion VND used for items including construction costs, equipment before tax, construction supervision consulting costs and some consulting services according to the WB's policy before tax, contingency costs for the above items; counterpart capital of about 3,000 billion VND is used for items of project management costs, remaining construction investment consulting, other costs, site clearance costs, etc.
National Highways 53, 62, 91B, once completed, will gradually complete the road traffic network connecting the provinces and cities of Long An, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Can Tho, Hau Giang, Soc Trang and Bac Lieu; contributing to promoting socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta region./.
