The above comment was made by expert Richard Black of the Schiller Institute at the United Nations in New York, in an interview with Russia's RIA news agency.
According to this expert, considering the fact that the foreign policy of the outgoing Joe Biden administration "completely failed", Mr. Trump's public intention to meet President Putin immediately after taking office is a hopeful sign showing the possibility of preventing the risk of World War III.
President Putin has made it clear that he is ready for dialogue if it is based on mutual respect and the building of a new security structure that ensures Russia's security.
Mr. Black assessed: "Such a Trump-Putin meeting would be a wise first step for the new US administration."
The expert called "large-scale, illegal economic warfare - mislabeled as sanctions", military support for Ukraine, efforts to arm Taiwan (China) and funding Israel's war on Gaza as some of the items on "Mr. Biden's sad list of foreign policy failures".
According to him, instead of maintaining the global strategic dominance of the UK and the US, the Biden administration has contributed to shifting the "center of history" to the Eurasian region and the Southern Hemisphere, as more and more countries express interest in joining the BRICS group of leading emerging economies .
In December 2024, Mr. Trump announced that he would wait to meet with President Putin after the Russian leader expressed his willingness to meet directly with his American counterpart. On January 16, Mr. Trump announced that he wanted to hold the meeting immediately after taking office.
