Like other new generation stealth fighters, the Su-57 is designed to carry all weapons in the fuselage to reduce radar reflection area, increase stealth and survive long-range attacks.
The Su-57's weapons bay is rated significantly deeper than the US F-22, and is comparable but larger than the F-35, allowing it to carry larger diameter missiles such as cruise missiles. In addition to the main fuselage bay, the aircraft also has two small bays in the wing roots to accommodate short-range air-to-air missiles.

Unlike Chinese and American stealth fighters, the Su-57 focuses less on absolute stealth and more on cruise missile attack capabilities. It is the only aircraft in its generation confirmed to be able to carry long-range air-to-surface missiles, such as the Kh-59MK2, which has been used in military operations in Ukraine and possibly Syria.
These design features reflect the Su-57’s intended use: not to penetrate deep into enemy territory, but to coordinate with domestic air defenses, attacking targets from a safe distance in Russian-controlled airspace. However, the aircraft has also participated in a number of missions in contested airspace, where Ukrainian air defenses are heavily deployed.
The Su-57 is believed to have eight to ten internal weapons hardpoints, six to eight of which are located in the main flight deck. Several new weapons have been announced for the aircraft, such as the PBK-500U Drel gliding cluster bomb and air-launched ballistic missiles. In August, the Su-57 was said to have integrated a hypersonic air-to-surface missile – possibly a variant of the Russian Navy’s Zircon cruise missile.

The Su-57 fighter continues to be the preferred platform for new generations of weapons, with capabilities that are expected to significantly increase its strategic value in the Russian military as well as in the international market. In addition, Russia is also completing the upgraded Su-57M1 variant, equipped with a new generation radar and an extended fuselage, which will further improve stealth capabilities and combat performance.
