Admiring buckwheat flowers blooming at the foot of Chu Dang Ya volcano in Gia Lai

These days, when visiting Chu Dang Ya volcano (Chu Pah district, Gia Lai province), tourists have an additional option to extend their trip by immersing themselves in the fresh beauty of buckwheat flower gardens blooming right at the foot of the mountain.

This buckwheat flower garden belongs to the family of Ms. Tran Thi Tuyet (Ko village, Chu Dang Ya commune). As a local tour guide, Ms. Tuyet has always been concerned about how to attract more tourists to her hometown. In 2018, she joined a motorbike taxi team that transports tourists to the top of Chu Dang Ya mountain for sightseeing and experiences. In 2022, with the desire to enrich the landscape at the foot of the mountain, she planted a garden of butterfly flowers for tourists to take photos and check in.

This flower garden has attracted a large number of visitors, but Ms. Tuyet still wanted to innovate to make the garden more impressive and beautiful. In early August 2023, she began planting buckwheat flowers, a famous flower loved by tourists in the northern mountainous region.

"Gia Lai also has some people who grow buckwheat flowers, and the flowers are very beautiful, but it doesn't have the majestic mountain scenery like Northwest Vietnam. This year, I chose buckwheat flowers to create something new and attractive for locals and tourists," Ms. Tuyet shared.

Ms. Tuyet purchased buckwheat seeds from Northwest Vietnam and planted them in two different areas with varying flowering times. The largest garden covers approximately 4 acres. To add a unique touch to the flower garden, she and her husband created an Olympic-themed sculpture with five rings. Favorable weather conditions have resulted in healthy plant growth. Currently, the buckwheat flowers are in full bloom. The delicate white and pale pink petals create a dreamy scene amidst the vast mountains and hills.

“After researching the flowering time of the buckwheat plants in relation to the wild sunflower festival, I calculated the area so that when the wild sunflowers start to fade, visitors won't be disappointed because there will be buckwheat flowers. Currently, the garden charges 20,000 VND per person for photo check-ins, mainly to cover the costs of seedlings, planting, and care,” Ms. Tuyet revealed.

After images of buckwheat flower gardens at the foot of Chu Dang Ya mountain were shared on social media, many people came to visit. Most locals and tourists expressed their delight at being able to admire this flower amidst the majestic Central Highlands.

Ms. Pham Thi Ha (Hoi Thuong Ward, Pleiku City) shared: “On weekends, I go with friends to find places with beautiful scenery to take photos and check in. Right now in Chu Dang Ya, the wild sunflowers are just starting to bloom. Plus, there's the buckwheat flower garden. The garden is quite large and beautiful, the path is convenient, and it's especially nice because it's located right at the foot of the mountain. When taking photos, the view of the volcano is just like being in Northwest Vietnam.”

For visitors from afar, this is an unforgettable experience. Ms. Nguyen Thu Huong ( Ho Chi Minh City) enthusiastically said: “During a business trip to Gia Lai, I visited Chu Dang Ya volcano. Although the wild sunflowers haven't bloomed yet, the volcano still has its own unique beauty with its majestic scenery. Especially the buckwheat flower garden. I really like this flower because it's small, pure, and characteristic of the Northwest region. I didn't expect to find buckwheat grown here; the flowers are so beautiful.”
