The winning works at this astronomy photography contest also open up for us completely new perspectives on the vast universe outside of Earth, according to The Guardian (UK).

According to information from the organizing committee - the Royal Greenwich Observatory (London, UK) - this year's contest received more than 4,000 entries from 61 countries.

After many rounds of rigorous selection, the jury decided to award the highest prize to the group of authors Marcel Drechsler (Germany), Xavier Strottner and Yann Sainty (France) with the photo “Andromeda, Unexpected”. Meanwhile, the 2023 Young Photographer of the Year award went to two 14-year-old boys from China, Runwei Xu and Binyu Wang, with their work “The Running Chicken Nebula,” which captures the IC 2944 nebula, located in the constellation Sagittarius.
