Permanent Vice President Nguyen Thanh Binh inspected and reviewed the work of ensuring security, safety and protecting artifacts at Thai Hoa Palace. |
Technology application, situation handling training
Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center Hoang Viet Trung frankly admitted: “Each incident shows unexpected situations. The lesson this time is to prepare best, in accordance with reality and focus on vulnerable weaknesses in the heritage protection system”. According to Mr. Trung, immediately after the incident, the Center brought the Nguyen Dynasty throne to the Hue Royal Antiquities Museum for storage and preservation according to professional procedures. At the same time, it was replaced with a restored version for visitors. A professional council will be established to assess the condition of the artifacts and propose preservation and restoration plans.
At the same time, many urgent and long-term solutions were established: reviewing security procedures, assessing the current status of treasures, coordinating with the police force to train in handling situations, and proposing to strengthen support tools according to legal regulations. At the same time, there will be deeper coordination with the police force to organize training for the protection team on skills to detect and prevent acts of heritage encroachment early.
“At Thai Hoa Palace, there is currently a surveillance camera system and intrusion alarm system... However, the system needs to be upgraded synchronously, supplemented with more modern technology and especially there must be smooth coordination between security, guidance and supervision forces,” said Mr. Trung.

Sharing the same spirit, Mr. Tran Dinh Than, Head of the Protection Management Department of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, informed: After the incident, the security forces at the relic sites have been thoroughly informed to raise the spirit of vigilance. Mobile teams have increased inspections, patrols, and are ready to support when incidents occur. "We are proposing to adjust the protection plan, especially at sites with national treasures," said Mr. Than.
At the inspection, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized: "This is a very regrettable incident, causing serious consequences. We have reported to the Government, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and requested a review of the entire existing security system." The city also requested a review of the responsibilities of relevant organizations and individuals; at the same time, draw lessons to adjust and strengthen the security process in terms of human resources, equipment and operating mechanisms.
“National treasures and heritage are invaluable assets of the country. Hue is fortunate to preserve extremely special relics, so it must be even more strict. The city requires the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to coordinate with the Department of Culture and Sports to rebuild the entire protection plan, especially for national-level artifacts,” Mr. Binh affirmed.

At Thai Hoa Palace, tourist Ha Thi Thuy Dung ( Phu Tho ) shared: “I was very surprised to hear about the destruction of the throne. This is a sacred heritage with great spiritual value, and needs to be protected more strictly to preserve it for future generations.”

"We are working with the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to review all the treasures on display to evaluate and propose more suitable protection plans," said Mr. Minh.
The recent incident at Thai Hoa Palace is a warning bell not only about the capacity to protect relics but also about public awareness of heritage. Besides technical and management solutions, raising awareness is an important “key” to long-term heritage protection.
Following the direction of the City People's Committee, the Department of Culture - Sports and the Hue Monuments Conservation Center will increase communication from tourist attractions to social networks and newspapers. Thereby, arousing community solidarity, forming habits of respecting and preserving common cultural values.
“Heritage is not only the property of the State but also of each citizen. Any act of lack of awareness can cause irreparable consequences. We hope that the community and people will join hands to protect the cultural heritage that Hue is fortunate to preserve,” Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized.
