State Bank affirms system safety after CIC data incident

According to a statement issued on September 12, the State Bank of Vietnam said it had received a report from CIC about this incident. Immediately, the State Bank of Vietnam directed CIC to urgently report and closely coordinate with competent State agencies to verify and handle the incident, while ensuring CIC's continuous and smooth operations.

The State Bank emphasized that it has regularly directed and requested credit institutions to strengthen inspections and ensure strict compliance with legal regulations on security, confidentiality, and safety of information technology systems, in order to protect the legitimate rights and interests of customers.

Notably, the credit information collected by CIC as required by law does not include sensitive information such as deposit accounts, deposit balances, savings books, payment accounts, debit card numbers, credit card numbers, security codes, or customer payment transaction history. The State Bank of Vietnam also affirmed that the information technology systems of credit institutions operate independently and their services are currently being implemented continuously, safely and stably.

The State Bank of Vietnam also clearly warns that the illegal collection, processing, exploitation, use, exchange and provision of credit information will be handled according to the provisions of law.

To protect themselves, customers are advised to comply with the provisions of the law and instructions and recommendations of competent authorities on safety and security. At the same time, it is necessary to follow the regulations, instructions and recommendations of credit institutions to protect their rights and interests, as well as to avoid being exploited by bad guys to spread malware, scam and appropriate assets.
