World Tourism Day 2023 theme: Green Tourism and Investment

UNWTO emphasized that the impact of the recent Covid-19 pandemic is an opportunity to identify and re-adjust the direction and method of investment in tourism to better support the successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, UNWTO has identified investment as one of the top priorities for the recovery, growth and development of tourism in the future.

UNWTO notes the need to make traditional and non-traditional investments more people, planet and prosperity oriented, so that tourism can create opportunities for people, build resilience, accelerate climate action and enhance planetary sustainability, and deliver inclusive prosperity around the pillars of innovation and entrepreneurship.

UNWTO has identified investment as a key priority for the tourism sector, acting as a bridge between UNWTO Member States, destinations, businesses and investors. World Tourism Day 2023 is a call to action for the international community, governments , financial institutions, development partners and private sector investors to unite around a new tourism investment strategy.

The World Tourism Day 2023 celebration will be held on September 27, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

In Vietnam, sustainable development and green development are always important orientations in the strategies and projects of the tourism industry. The Vietnam tourism development strategy to 2020, with a vision to 2030, sets out the orientation of "Developing green tourism, linking tourism activities with preserving and promoting the values of resources and protecting the environment".

In order to affirm and realize the above policy, the National Tourism Year 2022 and 2023 both chose the theme of green tourism. In particular, the National Tourism Year 2022 has the theme "Quang Nam - Green tourism destination" to spread the image of safe, green and sustainable Vietnamese tourism. The theme of the National Tourism Year 2023 in Binh Thuan was also chosen as "Binh Thuan - Green Convergence".
