The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just issued Decision No. 1150/QD-BVHTTDL to include the traditional craft of Kim Son sedge weaving, Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province, in the List of national intangible cultural heritage.
Kim Son sedge craft is a traditional craft that was formed hundreds of years ago. Through many historical ups and downs, the sedge craft has increasingly demonstrated its position and developed to this day.
Kim Son sedge products are diverse in design, color, and eye-catching patterns with many types such as carpets, baskets, trays, boxes, plates, cups, glasses, hats, slippers, handbags... Many of which have been recognized as meeting the province's OCOP standards such as sedge mirrors, sedge bags, and vases.
Currently, Kim Son sedge craft creates jobs for over 30,000 idle agricultural workers, contributing about 70-80% of the district's annual handicraft production value. Kim Son sedge handicraft products have been exported to over 20 countries and territories with increasingly improved quality.
Thus, up to now, Ninh Binh owns 7 national intangible cultural heritages including: Hoa Lu Festival, Xam singing art, Binh Hai village festival, Ninh Van stone carving craft, Ninh Hai traditional embroidery-lace craft, Mo Muong social customs and beliefs and Kim Son traditional sedge craft.
