Few people know that, before becoming the new valedictorian, the 22-year-old girl chose the university path but decided to change direction, stop studying after 1 year and start over with college.
Courage to find the right environment
Dang Thi Lan Thanh was admitted to the tourism major at a university in Ho Chi Minh City. After two semesters, Thanh realized that the major did not match her interests and direction. “The more I studied, the more frustrated I became. I no longer felt the love for studying. I struggled mentally and thought a lot about the decision to stop studying at university,” Lan Thanh said.
At that time, the support of his family was an important support, helping Thanh bravely change direction. After doing some research, Thanh applied to the Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics because he did not want to spend more time reviewing for the university entrance exam, shortening the time and going to work early.

Lan Thanh chose to study marketing because she believed that this field of study was related to market demand, and she also loved the novelty. Although she was initially confused when entering a completely new field, with perseverance and effort, Thanh gradually got used to it. During her internship, Thanh was highly appreciated by the company and retained for an official job.
In the future, Thanh plans to continue her studies at university in the direction of business administration, after accumulating more practical experience. “I believe that when knowledge is linked to work, learning will become more effective,” Thanh said.
Proactively shorten study time to graduate ahead of schedule
778 students of Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics were awarded their degrees at the graduation ceremony on October 26. Among them, 106 students graduated ahead of schedule. Pham Ngoc Anh Duong, majoring in business administration, was one of them. At only 20 years old, Duong completed the training program in just 2 years, half a year shorter than the usual schedule.
From the beginning, Duong did not choose university but enrolled in college with the hope of shortening his study time so he could start working soon.
Duong shared that normally, students only need to register for a minimum of 15 credits per semester and will complete the course in 2.5 years. But Duong realized that he could study more without pressure, so he decided to register for 20 credits per semester, up to 22 credits in some semesters, while still balancing his study schedule and part-time job.

Not only did Duong learn quickly, he also took the initiative to work part-time very early to earn extra income to cover his living expenses. Duong said that he worked part-time almost every week but still maintained his studies thanks to his ability to arrange his time properly.
Right after graduating, Anh Duong had a period of working in Hanoi in a position in her major. Currently, Duong is preparing to work for a company in her hometown (Thanh Hoa). "I will work for about 2 years to gain experience, then I will transfer to university, I do not want to stop my studies here", Anh Duong shared.
Master Tran Van Tu, Principal of the school, shared that completing the program ahead of schedule shows initiative, self-study ability and high self-discipline - qualities that businesses especially value in the modern working environment. Most students who graduate ahead of schedule are good and excellent students. Therefore, even though they graduate early, students still ensure output quality and can quickly adapt to job requirements.
"Many businesses evaluate these students as having a progressive mindset, quick adaptability and high entrepreneurial spirit, in line with the trend of recruiting young, dynamic personnel with the ability to work independently. Some businesses have recruited students during their internship period," added Master Tu.
