The study of imported sand sources to ensure the needs of transportation projects, especially expressways in the Mekong Delta region, are being further considered and evaluated by relevant agencies.

In a report to the National Assembly on the research into solutions to diversify the sources of materials used for transportation projects, especially in the Mekong Delta region, the Ministry of Transport stated that, according to a report from the Ho Chi Minh City Real Estate Association, Cambodia has expressed willingness to export sand to Vietnam with a reserve of approximately 100 million cubic meters, with an extraction period of one year.

The association also proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee act as the liaison with the other party to carry out the procedures, and at the same time assign a military enterprise unit in the South to act as the liaison to sign the contract for distribution.

"Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has chaired and coordinated with relevant ministries, sectors, and agencies to organize a working group to Cambodia and report to the Prime Minister."

Accordingly, Cambodia has abundant sand reserves for land leveling and construction, sufficient to meet the immediate and long-term needs of the southern provinces. The supply of sand faces no obstacles in terms of the policies of the two governments . This is a major source of supply for projects," the Ministry of Transport informed.

Previously, in a report to the Ministry of Transport on the mobilization of construction materials for the North-South expressway project, specifically the Can Tho - Ca Mau section, a representative from the My Thuan Project Management Board stated that, in order to meet the deadline for completing the load testing and weak soil treatment work in 2024 to ensure the project is completed in 2025, in addition to river and sea sand brought to the construction site, the purchase of sand from Cambodia is also being studied and evaluated by the investor, consulting unit, and contractor.
