In a statement in Damascus, Foreign Minister Sybiga affirmed that Kiev "stands side by side and is ready to help the Syrian people," because Ukraine is interested in a stable Middle Eastern country and developing mutually beneficial cooperation, UNN news agency reported.
According to him, the new Syria "will be a state that respects international law, including the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine. This will pave the way for the resumption of diplomatic relations, political dialogue and the functioning of diplomatic institutions."
Revealing that Kiev is waiting for the Syrian side to take action on this issue, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister noted: “The restoration of diplomatic presence will allow us to increase trade, cooperation in science and technology, culture andeducation ”.
Accordingly, the two sides can establish joint ventures in industrial and food production, exchange technology and cooperate in the fields of cyber security and information protection.
Kiev also expressed its readiness to share its security experience with Damascus, and the first visit of a Ukrainian delegation to Syria demonstrated that the Eastern European country is ready to open a new page in bilateral relations.
In addition, the Ukrainian side believes that, strategically, eliminating the Russian presence in Syria will contribute to the stability not only of the Syrian state but also of the entire Middle East and Africa, although it will take time.
The overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad by the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham has raised questions about the future of Russia's military bases in Syria, including the Hmeimim air base in Latakia and the Tartous naval facility.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the issue would be discussed with the new leadership in Damascus. For his part, the de facto leader of the Syrian interim government, Ahmed al-Sharaa, said that relations between his country and Russia should serve the common interests of both sides.
