But after a violent sneeze in the bathroom, the 32-year-old discovered the cause of his long-standing health problems: a piece of Lego that had been stuck in his nose for years.
Norton was shocked when he heard a "clang" and saw the yellow puzzle piece on the bathroom floor. "Suddenly, a memory of something I had completely forgotten came flooding back," he said.
In 1998, 6-year-old Norton was playing with Legos when he thought about shoving a piece up his nostril. It was a yellow piece smaller than a kernel of corn. “I don’t know why I did it. Kids in the 1990s were naughty,” Norton explained.
Panic set in when he realized the piece of plastic was too small to remove.

Norton then came up with another “brilliant” idea: assemble a Lego figure and stuff it into his nostril, hoping to catch the yellow plastic piece and pull it out. However, that rescue mission failed.
Norton's mother used tweezers to remove the statue but did not know that a small yellow piece was still there. The foreign object remained in Norton's nose for 26 years.
“I’ve had sinus problems, allergies, and congestion all my life. Because I’m allergic to cats, dogs, grass, dust, and many native plants, I’ve lived my whole life thinking that any congestion was simply caused by allergies,” Norton told Newsweek.
Norton’s doctor advised him to blow his nose in the shower during the hot, dry summer months because it helps with the steamy conditions. “I’ve been doing it for the past six months. One day, I blew my nose in the shower and to my surprise, I sneezed out a Lego. I was shocked,” Norton said.
The young man said he would consult a doctor about the matter, but for now, he felt a sense of relief, like pulling the plug. Norton planned to keep the foreign object “as a souvenir of his stupidity.”
