From 10:30 PM to 11:30 PM (Vietnam time) on March 5th, after more than an hour of global outage, Meta services using Facebook accounts were able to log back in. However, the problem was not completely resolved, and as of March 6th, many people are still experiencing difficulties logging back in.
In the above case, users would usually re-enter their password to log into Facebook, but most choose the alternative option "Forgot password," which offers several choices such as verification via email or registered phone number.
But this time, Facebook required verification via a different device (in cases where users use one account on multiple devices), which made it difficult for those who only use Facebook on a single device; Email verification also failed to confirm Facebook logins; and Facebook announced that the login code would be sent to the WhatsApp application instead of the registered mobile number, which caused difficulties for users because not everyone uses this application.
According to Mr. Vu Ngoc Son, Director of Technology at the Vietnam National Cyber Security Technology Company, Facebook has been fundamentally restored, but users need to be extremely vigilant against "copycat" services whose sole purpose is fraud and attacks on users.
"Typically, hackers are very 'sensitive' to events like this, and many follow-up methods such as 'guides on logging into Facebook when encountering errors,' 'the fastest way to recover your password'... are posted. If users are not vigilant, they may follow the instructions and access fraudulent websites, thereby losing their account information and passwords," Mr. Vu Ngoc Son shared.
To prevent exploitation by malicious actors, users should remain calm and not rush to try to log back in or recover their passwords immediately. Instead, they should wait for the service provider to issue announcements regarding the resolution of the issue.
