Tech company OpenAI says its artificial intelligence (AI) app ChatGPT receives 2.5 billion prompts from global users every day.
About 330 million of those prompts came from users in the US, showing just how popular OpenAI’s flagship app is becoming.
In artificial intelligence, a prompt is a command, question, or instruction that a user gives to an AI system to request that the AI perform a specific action or generate a desired response.
It acts as a communication bridge between users and AI, helping users convey their intentions and receive relevant results from AI.
In most AI systems that interact with users in general, the prompt is the input data provided by humans.
The purpose of a prompt is to guide the AI model to produce the desired output – be it text, images, code, audio, or any other form of content the model supports.
A prompt doesn't have to be a complex sentence. Sometimes a simple keyword works just as well. However, to get the most out of AI, prompts often need to be more detailed and specific.
Alphabet, Google’s parent company, doesn’t release daily search data, but it recently said Google receives 5 trillion queries a year, an average of nearly 14 billion searches a day. Independent researchers have found similar trends.
Neil Patel of digital marketing firm NP Digital estimates that Google receives 13.7 billion searches per day, while research from two digital marketing firms SparkToro and Datos estimates the number to be around 16.4 billion per day. However, ChatGPT has shown impressive growth rates.
In December 2024, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said users were sending more than 1 billion queries to ChatGPT every day.
According to Mr. Altman, the number of queries sent to the company's flagship AI application has more than doubled in about eight months./.
