According to a VNA reporter in Moscow, on the eve of the 108th anniversary of the October Revolution, teachers and students of the Vietnamese Language Department at the Russian Federal State Linguistic University (MGLU) and many Vietnamese language students from prestigious universities in Moscow have just organized a "special class."
The purpose of this lesson is to improve students' Vietnamese through reviewing historical lessons of the proletarian revolution, while discovering interesting things about Vietnam.
During the special class, through the bilingual presentation of lecturer Hong Hoa and the documentary film, the question of why the revolution that took place in 1917 in faraway Russia could help an Asian nation like Vietnam gain independence and freedom in 1945 was explained to students born a hundred years after the revolution.
The October Revolution of 1917 not only liberated the Russian people, but also inspired colonial peoples to liberate themselves. For the first time, a revolution led by the proletariat won, creating encouragement for peoples seeking liberation to stand up and gain the right to decide their own destiny.
Through the wisdom of the outstanding revolutionary Nguyen Ai Quoc, the path of national liberation associated with socialism came to Vietnam, leading the workers' movement and culminating in the birth of the Communist Party of Vietnam - the decisive factor for all future victories of the nation.
The proletarian revolution in Russia also had another enthusiastic supporter from Vietnam, who raised the red flag on the French Navy battleship France in April 1919 on the Black Sea to welcome the world's first worker-peasant state.
That person later became the first President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, also the first President of the Vietnam-Soviet Union Friendship Association Ton Duc Thang, whom the Vietnamese people always affectionately called Uncle Ton.
Sharing after class, student Alla, a third-year student at MGLU, said the influences of the October Revolution on the Vietnamese Revolution gave her a new perspective on her own country's history.
Among them, student Mikhail - also a third-year student at the Moscow State University of International Relations (MGIMO) under the Russian Foreign Ministry - said that the information he gained from the "special class" helped him understand more about the golden pages of the Vietnam - Soviet Union relationship before it was officially established.
Mikhail is known throughout Vietnam as the interpreter for singer Duc Phuc when he won the summer Intervision competition in Russia. Mikhail said that the knowledge he gained in class was extremely interesting and helped him clearly feel the vivid historical connection between the two countries as well as feel that Vietnam is much closer.
On November 7, working people across the five continents will celebrate the 108th anniversary of the October Revolution in Russia, a proletarian revolution that lasted only 10 days but "shook the world."
The lessons of that event are eternal and passed down at many levels and aspects and never lose their practical value in current history./.
