Vietnam has 25 universities in the Asia Rankings

The Quacquarelli Symonds ranking organization has just announced the results of the 2026 Asian University Rankings (QS AUR 2026). Accordingly, Vietnam has 25 higher education institutions in this ranking, including 8 schools participating for the first time.

Among the representatives ranked in the previous period, 7 representatives improved their rankings, 1 educational institution remained the same and 9 educational institutions dropped in their rankings.

Specifically, Hanoi National University is at the top of the list of ranked training institutions in Vietnam, with a ranking of 158. Followed by: Duy Tan University 165; Ho Chi Minh City National University 175; Ton Duc Thang University 231; Van Lang University 251; Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology 287; Hanoi University of Science and Technology 315; Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics 318; Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry 355; Nguyen Tat Thanh University 437; Da Nang University 439; Hue University 450; Can Tho University 493; Foreign Trade University 580; University of Transport 607; Ho Chi Minh City Open University 729; Vietnam National University of Agriculture 786; Hanoi Pedagogical University 847; Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education 921; Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry 951; Phenikaa University 955; Water Resources University 1,024; University of Commerce 1,157; ​​Banking Academy 1,265 and Vinh University 1,280.

During the ranking process from QS AUR 2019 to present, Hanoi National University has maintained steady and sustainable growth in ranking percentile.

The results of Hanoi National University in this ranking are thanks to the significant improvement in the highly weighted criteria groups, directly reflecting the quality of training and research. Regarding reputation and training quality, the two most important criteria, Academic reputation (weight 30%) and Recruitment reputation (weight 20%) both increased strongly, ranking 122nd (up 14 places) and 128th (up 9 places) respectively. This affirms that the quality of research and training of Hanoi National University is increasingly appreciated by the international academic community and employers.

The quality and capacity of research is clearly demonstrated through the ranking criteria of international research network, when Hanoi National University rose 14 places to enter the top 75 universities in Asia. This index shows the level of international integration and cooperation in research of Hanoi National University units and scientists.

Director of Hanoi National University Hoang Minh Son emphasized that, together with other Vietnamese universities, Hanoi National University is well aware that in order to catch up with the world's leading universities, it is necessary to make efforts to innovate the governance model, improve the quality of training and research, expand international cooperation and promote quality integration. Resolutions No. 57-NQ/TW and 71-NQ/TW, together with recent instructions from the General Secretary, have created great opportunities and advantages for the Vietnamese higher education system in general and Hanoi National University in particular in the integration process, affirming its position on the international knowledge map.

According to Director of Hanoi National University Hoang Minh Son, ranking is not a goal, but a tool and criterion for comparison, learning, improvement, thereby improving quality according to international standards. The top priority of Hanoi National University is to fulfill national responsibilities, make practical contributions to training high-quality human resources, research - knowledge transfer and policy consultation to serve the country's sustainable development.

The QS AUR 2026 ranking is also the largest ever, with 1,529 higher education institutions from 25 countries and territories in Asia ranked, with 558 higher education institutions appearing in the ranking for the first time.

In this ranking, QS maintains the same 11 ranking criteria and weights as the QS AUR 2025 ranking. The ranking results are based on an analysis of responses from more than 1.5 million votes from scholars and 520,000 votes from employers worldwide. In addition, QS analyzed more than 200 million citations from 19.8 million scientific publications.

The two countries with the largest number of ranked institutions are China with 394 institutions and India with 294 institutions.
