On May 23, 2025, in Hanoi , in the solemn atmosphere of the "Outstanding Electricity Industry Workers" Award Ceremony in 2025 organized by Vietnam Electricity Group, Mr. Nguyen Van Giap was honored to be among the 117 outstanding individuals honored. This is a valuable recognition for his tireless efforts during more than 15 years of working with the "common home" of Quang Ninh Thermal Power Plant, where he considers the boiler - the "heart" of the Plant - his responsibility and passion.
Since 2009, as the Head of the Furnace, Mr. Nguyen Van Giap has been directly monitoring parameters, adjusting modes, handling incidents and ensuring safe, continuous and efficient operation of the furnace equipment. The job requires in-depth knowledge, extensive experience and a strong spirit, because every decision and every operation directly affects the stability of the entire unit, contributing to the stability of the national power system. With a confident style and a high sense of responsibility, Mr. Giap and his teammates always follow every development of the equipment, ready to respond to any unusual situations.
In particular, during the peak dry seasons of 2023, 2024 and 2025, when the entire national power system faces the pressure of increased load demand, the role of furnace guards like Mr. Giap becomes more important than ever. This is also the period when Quang Ninh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company strongly responds to the Emulation Movement to ensure power generation in the dry season of Vietnam Electricity Group, a movement that demonstrates the determination and joint efforts of units in the Group to overcome challenges and meet electricity demand. It is during this peak period that the mettle and capacity of Furnace Chief Nguyen Van Giap have been clearly demonstrated.
In March 2024, a technical incident that could potentially affect the operation of the Unit occurred: Unit 1 experienced strong vibrations at the AB smoke fan. With his experience and professional acumen, Mr. Giap quickly identified the cause, calmly proposed a solution, and proactively adjusted the equipment balance. As a result, the unit's operating capacity was not only not reduced, but was also increased from 250 MW to 285 MW, reaching the effective load threshold while still ensuring safety and stability. This achievement is not only a bright spot in the operation but also has practical significance, contributing valuable electricity output in the context of high load, and he was recognized with a competition coefficient K = 1.2 - a high level of evaluation in the unit's competition.
Then, on September 7, 2024, when storm No. 3 ( YAGI ) made landfall, seriously affecting the Quang Ninh area and the operation of the Quang Ninh Thermal Power Plant, Unit 1 of the Plant once again faced a challenge: an incident in the circulation and compressed air system of clusters QN I and QN II. In this situation, which required smooth coordination and precise decisions, Mr. Giap and his colleagues in the production shift handled it effectively, maintaining stable operation of the unit, without losing load, ensuring safety for the entire system. This effort continued to be recognized with the emulation coefficient K = 1.1.
Mr. Giap's silent but decisive contributions not only helped the Operation Workshop successfully complete its electricity production tasks but were also an important factor in helping Quang Ninh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company meet the continuous operation requirements of the national power system, affirming the pivotal role of thermal power plants in the most challenging periods.
Engineers with the spirit of "lifelong learning"
Not only is he steadfast in his operational expertise, Mr. Nguyen Van Giap is also a shining example in the research movement, promoting technical innovation initiatives - one of the core contents of the emulation movement "Good workers, Creative workers" that EVN and its member units, including Quang Ninh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company and Power Generation Corporation 1 (EVNGENCO1), always focus on promoting. Quang Ninh Thermal Power is also the honored unit to host the launching ceremony of Workers' Month 2025 and the emulation movement "Creative workers", the program "10 thousand initiatives" for the period 2025 - 2028 of EVN on April 24, 2025, showing the response and high determination of the Company.
In 2024, with a technical proposal to overcome the unstable operation of the fine coal feeder system, Mr. Giap made an important contribution to reducing coal and heat loss, stabilizing combustion regime and increasing boiler efficiency. This initiative was highly appreciated by the Company and Workshop leaders, demonstrating his proactive spirit, responsibility and innovative thinking.
During each shift, he is always the one who closely monitors the equipment operation, promptly detects potential defects to promptly propose solutions for handling and repairing. He actively analyzes the causes of incidents with his colleagues, develops risk prevention solutions, and ensures the unit operates safely, continuously, and economically. Not only is he good at operation, Mr. Giap is also a dedicated supervisor during major repairs, contributing to ensuring the quality and progress of the work, helping the unit after repair to achieve the set economic and technical targets.
Along with the work, his passion for the profession also urges him to constantly study and update new knowledge. He is an active participant in professional training courses, safety training, and new technology updates organized by the Company and his superiors. With a spirit of learning, willingness to share experiences and learn from colleagues, Mr. Giap not only improves his own qualifications but also contributes to building a united, professional working environment where everyone progresses together. Being honored as "Outstanding Electricity Industry Worker" in 2025 by Vietnam Electricity Group is the highest recognition, affirming his tireless contributions.
