Covid-19 did not disappear; it became an endemic disease.
Currently, the number of Covid-19 cases has increased in several countries around the world , including Brazil, the UK, and Thailand.
Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam has recorded 148 scattered cases in 27 provinces and cities, with no deaths. While there have been no concentrated outbreaks, there has been a slight increase in cases over the past three weeks, averaging 20 cases per week.
Associate Professor Tran Dac Phu, former Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health , stated that currently, Covid-19 is an endemic disease, classified as a Group B infectious disease. The disease will not disappear, therefore the number of cases will fluctuate, sometimes increasing and sometimes decreasing, even exhibiting cyclical characteristics like influenza.

"People shouldn't be overly worried about the current Covid-19 cases. The virus is still present in the community with scattered cases, but no severe cases or deaths have been recorded."
"The circulating variant is still a mild strain of Omicron. However, high-risk groups such as people with underlying conditions, weakened immune systems, pregnant women, etc., can still develop severe symptoms and require hospitalization if they contract the disease," Dr. Phu explained.
Therefore, people with suspected symptoms and those who have been in contact with people with suspected symptoms must wear masks. At the same time, they should wash their hands frequently with soap and water or hand sanitizer…
"People shouldn't be overly worried, but they shouldn't be complacent either. We can't rule out the possibility of unexpected developments in Covid-19. Therefore, healthcare facilities need to be prepared so that, should something unexpected happen, we have enough hospital beds and isolation facilities to prevent a strong outbreak and avoid cross-infection leading to deaths like before," Dr. Phu emphasized.
The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the disease's progression, so that it can issue timely recommendations if new variants emerge that spread rapidly and cause severe illness.
According to him, in the fight against infectious diseases, Covid-19 cases are treated like seasonal flu.
Guidelines for monitoring and preventing Covid-19
According to the Covid-19 monitoring and prevention guidelines, individuals diagnosed with Covid-19 can receive outpatient treatment or be admitted and managed for treatment at a medical facility as prescribed by the Ministry of Health.
When receiving outpatient treatment, patients must wear masks, self-isolate at their place of residence for at least 5 days from the first appearance of symptoms or from a positive test result, and should wear a mask for up to 10 days to avoid infecting others.
If you need to leave your accommodation, please wear a mask, sanitize your hands frequently, and limit contact with other people.
Caregivers or household members of the sick person must wear masks when in contact with the sick person; contact with the sick person should be limited.
In addition, wash your hands frequently with clean water and soap or hand sanitizer; disinfect frequently touched items and surfaces such as tabletops, doorknobs, handheld devices, toilets, sinks, etc., daily and whenever they get dirty; keep your living space well-ventilated and clean.
COVID-19 is transmitted directly from person to person through the respiratory tract (primarily via droplets) and through contact with contaminated objects and surfaces, followed by touching the eyes, nose, and mouth. The disease can also be transmitted through aerosols in enclosed, crowded spaces with limited ventilation, or in environments where aerosol generation occurs, such as in healthcare facilities.
People infected with Covid-19 exhibit a wide range of clinical manifestations, which may include asymptomatic cases, mild symptoms, or severe pathological conditions such as severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), sepsis, multiple organ failure, and death.
Groups at risk for severe illness include the elderly, people with serious underlying conditions such as diabetes/cardiovascular disease, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women.
