Covid-19 does not disappear, becoming endemic
Currently, the world has recorded an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in some countries such as Brazil, UK, Thailand...
Since the beginning of the year, our country has recorded 148 sporadic cases in 27 provinces and cities and no deaths. Our country has not recorded any concentrated outbreaks, but there has been a slight increase in the past 3 weeks, with an average of 20 cases/week.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dac Phu, former Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health , said that Covid-19 is currently an endemic disease, classified as a group B infectious disease. The disease does not disappear, so there will be times when the number of cases increases and decreases, even having a cyclical nature like the flu.

"People should not be too worried about the current Covid-19 cases. The epidemic still exists in the community with scattered cases, but there have been no severe cases or deaths.
The circulating variant is still a mild strain of Omicron. However, high-risk groups such as people with underlying diseases, immunodeficiency, pregnant women, etc., when infected, can still become seriously ill and require hospitalization," Dr. Phu analyzed.
Therefore, people with suspected symptoms and those in contact with people with suspected symptoms must wear masks. At the same time, wash your hands regularly with clean water and soap or hand sanitizer...
"People should not be too worried but should not be complacent. We cannot rule out the possibility of Covid-19 having unexpected developments. Therefore, medical facilities need to be prepared so that if there is an unexpected situation, we have enough hospital beds and isolation facilities so that the epidemic does not spread strongly and cross-infection leading to death like before," Dr. Phu emphasized.
The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the disease's developments, in order to issue timely recommendations if a new variant appears that spreads rapidly and causes serious illness.
According to him, in the prevention of infectious diseases, Covid-19 cases are treated like seasonal flu.
Guidelines for monitoring and preventing Covid-19
According to the guidelines for monitoring and preventing Covid-19, people diagnosed with Covid-19 can receive outpatient treatment or be admitted and managed at medical facilities according to regulations of the Ministry of Health.
When receiving outpatient treatment, patients must wear a mask, should self-isolate at their place of residence for at least 5 days from the first appearance of symptoms or from the time of positive test results, and should wear a mask until the 10th day to avoid infecting others.
If you need to leave your place of residence, you must wear a mask, regularly disinfect your hands, and limit contact with others.
Caregivers or people living in the same house as the sick person must wear a mask when in contact with the sick person; limit contact with the sick person.
In addition, regularly wash your hands with clean water and soap or hand sanitizer; clean and disinfect objects and contact surfaces such as table tops, doorknobs, handheld devices, toilets, sinks, etc. daily and when dirty; keep your accommodation well-ventilated and clean.
Covid-19 is transmitted directly from person to person through the respiratory tract (mainly through droplets) and through hands coming into contact with objects and surfaces contaminated with the virus and then touching the eyes, nose, and mouth. The disease can also be transmitted through aerosols in enclosed, crowded spaces with limited ventilation or places with many aerosol-generating operations such as in treatment facilities.
People with Covid-19 have diverse clinical manifestations, which can be asymptomatic, have mild symptoms or have severe pathological manifestations such as severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), sepsis, multiple organ failure and death.
Groups at risk of severe illness include the elderly, people with serious underlying medical conditions such as diabetes/cardiovascular disease, people with immunodeficiency, and pregnant women.
