Mother with red eyes receives diploma on behalf of daughter… in front of portrait

(Dan Tri) - In front of their daughter's portrait, Do Thi Tra's parents received her graduation certificate on her behalf, to fulfill the last wish of the student of the University of Technology, Danang University.

On September 19, Mr. Le Phong Nguyen, head teacher of class 18 KT CLC, University of Technology, Danang University, said that the school had awarded a special Architectural diploma to a student who passed away due to a serious illness.

Teacher Nguyen said that student Do Thi Tra (from Le Thuy commune, Quang Tri province), enrolled at the University of Science and Technology - Danang University in 2018, with the dream of becoming an architect.

According to the plan, in 2023, she will wear her graduation gown, shining on the most beautiful day of her student life. But the terrible kidney failure has forced her study journey to be tied to the hospital, with endless dialysis sessions.

Because of her illness, Tra has not been able to complete the Foreign Language output certificate, making her profile not qualified for graduation recognition.

According to Mr. Nguyen, despite her illness, Tra never gave up. While in bed, she diligently studied English for the exam. But in July 2024, Tra passed away forever, leaving her dream unfulfilled.

“Before leaving, I only had time to leave a simple wish to my friends and relatives: If I can't stay, I still want to receive my diploma, like all my classmates!”, Mr. Nguyen choked up as he shared.

Knowing this story, on September 18, the Board of Directors of the University of Technology, Danang University, traveled from Danang city to Quang Tri province to bring a gift of a special Architectural degree to Tra.

On the special day, in front of her daughter's portrait, Tra's mother put on her graduation gown with red eyes, while Tra's father stood beside her, silently missing his daughter. According to Mr. Nguyen, when Dr. Huynh Phuong Nam, Vice Principal of the School, presented the diploma to Tra's mother, many people could not hold back their tears.

Teacher Le Phong Nguyen said that on September 20, when the graduation ceremony takes place at the school where Tra used to work, her diploma will be the first to be announced. That is the recognition of the learning journey that she has tried to complete.

"You're gone... but your wish has come true. Your brilliant youth will forever be engraved in the hearts of all those who remain," said Mr. Nguyen.

On the morning of September 19, on the Fanpage of the University of Science and Technology, Danang University, the school also solemnly sent to student Do Thi Tra a touching message of gratitude: "Sleep well, Tra. The degree you have always dreamed of is now with you. You have truly graduated...!".
