Woman bought gold at 500,000 VND/tael, now sells at record price

(Dan Tri) - Buying 2 taels of gold for 500,000 VND/tael in 1997, a woman from Nghe An sold it after nearly 30 years, earning many times more profit.

In recent days, the online community has been abuzz with the image of a guarantee paper from a jewelry store in Hoa Thanh town, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An. This paper quickly attracted attention when it revealed the price of gold purchased nearly 30 years ago.

According to the information on the paper, in 1997, a customer bought a 9999 gold bar (2 taels, equivalent to 20 chi) for 500,000 VND/chi. The total payment was 10 million VND, including labor costs.

After nearly 30 years of holding gold, with domestic gold prices continuously reaching new peaks, surpassing the 100 million VND/tael mark, the woman decided to sell and earned a large profit compared to the original purchase price.

Buying cheap gold in 1997 and holding it until now has surprised many people when calculating the difference is about 20 times higher.

On his personal page, the gold and silver shop Nh.Tr. shared: "The shop welcomed many customers who came to close the deal when the gold price reached 10 million VND/tael. In particular, one customer made us extremely impressed."

The customer said that since she was not married, she had saved a little each month to buy gold. Now, she has grown grandchildren and still keeps that habit. This time, she sold when gold reached 10 million VND/tael, making a profit 20 times.

Like many people in Yen Thanh district, she considers gold as a long-term savings, only selling it when needed for a big event.
