Recalling the first time he donated blood in 2014, teacher Tran Trung Kien shared: "At that time, I simply thought that if I had the health conditions, I should participate. After the first time, meeting many volunteers, I realized that donating blood is not only a good deed, but also brings a chance to live for patients in urgent need of blood."
From that simple thought, teacher Tran Trung Kien became one of the most active volunteers of the Uong Bi City Live Blood Bank Club. Every time the Department of Education and Training or the City Red Cross launched a campaign, he proactively registered to participate and mobilized relatives, colleagues, and students to respond.
During his blood donation journey, there were stories that left a deep impression on teacher Kien: “I will never forget a cold night at the end of 2019 when I received an urgent call from a patient's family at the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital. It turned out that the person who called was a colleague from another school, looking for blood to save his brother who was seriously ill. I went to donate blood, but then I heard that he did not survive. That was a blood donation that made me very sad and worried.”
However, teacher Tran Trung Kien is not discouraged. Teacher Kien tells himself to maintain good health to ensure teaching work and maintain regular blood donation, 4 times a year. As Vice President of the Uong Bi City Live Blood Bank Club, teacher Kien not only actively donates blood but also plays a role in connecting and calling on the community to participate. On social networks, he regularly posts information, calling for urgent blood donations when the hospital is short of blood, especially in emergency cases requiring rare blood types.
One of the touching cases was in February 2025, when Le Hai Lang (10 years old, Trung Vuong ward, Uong Bi city) suffered from thalassemia and needed an urgent transfusion of type O blood. Faced with a shortage of blood at the hospital, Mr. Kien quickly posted a notice on social media groups. Thanks to the timely connection, many volunteers came to donate blood, helping Lang overcome the critical condition and recover his health.
Up to now, Mr. Kien has directly mobilized hundreds of people, from colleagues, relatives, students, to volunteers, to participate in blood donation. With his positive contributions to the voluntary blood donation movement, Mr. Tran Trung Kien has been recognized and rewarded by all levels and sectors. In 2025, Mr. Kien was one of 29 outstanding individuals honored by the Provincial People's Committee as "Outstanding Blood Donor of the Province". Not only outstanding for his volunteer spirit, during 24 years of teaching, Mr. Kien is also an excellent teacher at the city and provincial levels with many topics and scientific initiatives applied to teaching with high efficiency. Therefore, for many consecutive years, Mr. Kien has been a grassroots Emulation Fighter and received certificates of merit from the Department of Education and Training.
Sharing with reporters, teacher Tran Trung Kien expressed: "I will continue to donate blood until my health no longer allows. I hope that many more people will join hands, because just one drop of blood donated can bring life to many people."
