The family of Mr. Nguyen Van Thong in Tho Son commune, Hon Dat district, Kien Giang province, with over 20 years of experience in mango cultivation, is currently tending to 40 Hoa Loc mango trees in preparation for this year's Tet (Lunar New Year) season.

With this area, Mr. Thong has invested more than 20 million VND/hectare. Thanks to favorable weather, the Tet mango crop is predicted to yield a high output.

He said: “From the 23rd to the 29th of the twelfth lunar month, traders will come to buy the mangoes. Currently, the price is around 70,000 VND/kg, but it usually decreases during Tet because the supply from neighboring areas like Hau Giang increases sharply. Hopefully, the price won't fluctuate too much so that we can achieve good profits.”

Similarly, the family of Mr. Ho Quang Be in Tho Son commune also looks forward to the mango season for Tet (Lunar New Year) to have a prosperous holiday. With two mango orchards totaling over 5 hectares, Mr. Be's family harvests in two batches, on the 10th and 23rd of the 12th lunar month.

Currently, the price of Hoa Loc mangoes ranges from 50,000 to 70,000 VND/kg, expected to be higher than in previous years. Thanks to stable production and favorable prices, farmers expect a successful harvest, contributing to good income during Tet (Lunar New Year).

Mr. Nguyen Minh Hien, director of the GAP Cu Lao Gieng Cooperative in Cho Moi district, An Giang province, shared that mango farmers are currently very excited thanks to the high price of mangoes compared to the same period last year.

Specifically, the price of seedless mangoes reached 34,000 VND/kg, an increase of 8,000 VND/kg, while the price of green-skinned elephant mangoes was 32,000 VND/kg, an increase of 12,000 VND/kg. With an area of over 200 hectares planted with seedless mangoes and green-skinned elephant mangoes, farmers can earn a profit of more than 30% after deducting costs.

“In 2024, we exported over 250 tons of VietGAP-certified mangoes to markets such as the US, Australia, South Korea, and New Zealand. The increase in mango prices has made farmers very happy.”

"With the current mango prices, farmers can earn between 150 and 200 million VND per hectare, with a profit margin of about 50% after expenses. This mango harvest will help people have a prosperous Tet holiday," he said.

Dien pomelos, traditionally displayed during Tet, have migrated south, glistening yellow on the streets.

In recent days, along Mai Chi Tho street (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), long rows of pomelo trees displaying their bright golden fruit for Tet have attracted the attention of many passersby.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Lu, owner of Lu Nguyen ornamental plant garden, said that this year he transported more than 300 Dien pomelo trees from Hung Yen to Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Vinh to serve the Tet market. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, he is selling over 100 potted trees with prices ranging from 8 million VND to over 50 million VND per tree, depending on size and shape. Some older trees, bearing hundreds of bright yellow fruits, are priced as high as 70-90 million VND per tree.

In addition, Mr. Minh also brought more than 80 Dien pomelo trees from Hung Yen to Ho Chi Minh City, selling them at prices ranging from 7 million VND to 40 million VND per tree.

To add to the festive atmosphere, Mr. Minh decorated the tree with red bows and New Year's greetings. Despite the increased maintenance costs, he accepted a 10-15% discount compared to last year to attract buyers.

"High-priced trees are mainly rented or purchased by corporate clients, but the current number of customers has not yet met expectations," Mr. Minh shared.

According to gardeners, the number of trees currently available for rent or purchase only reaches about 15-20% of the supply. However, they expect demand to increase sharply from the 20th day of the twelfth lunar month onwards, creating a more vibrant shopping atmosphere.
