On the evening of May 22, at the Provincial Cultural House 3-2 ( Nam Dinh city), the Provincial Traditional Arts Theater organized a performance of the play "What remains" (scriptwriter: Dr. Nguyen Dang Chuong; director: Meritorious Artist Dao Quang; art design: Painter Dang Minh Tuan).
The play's story is set in the post-war period in Vong village - a rural area in the Central region. The story revolves around the events and behaviors of the characters: Mrs. Muon (mother-in-law), Ms. Thuyen (daughter-in-law - Mr. Ban's wife), Mr. Buong (a soldier passing through the village), and Duoc (Mr. Buong and Ms. Thuyen's son)... Thuyen - an 18-year-old girl, married Mr. Ban for a few days before her husband had to go to the battlefield. Her husband went away when they had just "taken a liking to each other", their lingering feelings were not yet deep enough, so at home Thuyen suddenly developed "foolish" feelings for Mr. Buong - a soldier passing through the village and left behind a child. The incident was discovered and spread, the two were denounced by the village and the government for "corruption", but Mrs. Muon - Thuyen's mother-in-law spoke up to defend her daughter-in-law with the reason "wanting to have a grandchild to rely on in the future". After 15 years of being away, Mr. Ban suddenly returned. According to his story, he lost his memory due to bombs and bullets, and then recovered and remembered to return home. Everything fell apart and he could not accept the truth. The life of Thuyen - Ban's family began to have conflicts in their married life. Then, Ban's final decision was to find a father for baby Duoc.
The story in the play "What Remains" praises human love, tolerance and forgiveness, which is the image of a mother and wife during the war, not only overcoming hardships and challenges caused by longing and loneliness but also social prejudices. Each character in the play carries a personality quality, notably knowing how to forgive and live for others. What remains after the play are wounds in the soul that have not yet healed but have been eased by being comforted and shared with love. The message of the play aims to exploit the psychological and emotional lives of the characters, the way people behave with each other, and to face the pain of loss caused by war; do not dig deeper into the wound but share, sympathize, and use love to soothe the pain...
This is also a play invested by the Provincial Traditional Arts Theater to participate in the National Drama Festival which will take place in June 2024 in Thai Nguyen province./.
