Expanding the model of agricultural cooperatives applying high technology.

Many agricultural cooperatives in the province have boldly invested in infrastructure development and are gradually applying high technology to production, preservation, preliminary processing, and product processing, helping to increase productivity, production and business efficiency, and members' income.

Expanding the model of agricultural cooperatives applying high technology. Area for producing Phalaenopsis orchids at Dong Tien Agricultural Mechanization Service Cooperative (Dong Son).

As one of the pioneering cooperatives in applying CNC technology to agricultural production, Dong Tien Agricultural Mechanization Service Cooperative (Dong Son) has built modern infrastructure and a value chain for producing and consuming high-quality vegetables and fruits.

According to Nguyen Xuan Thien, Director of the cooperative, “Since 2018, the cooperative has built a greenhouse system to produce safe vegetables and fruits. At the same time, we have installed an automatic irrigation and misting system to monitor temperature and humidity, saving production costs and improving product quality. Thanks to the application of modern science and technology in production, the cooperative's products meet VietGAP standards and are favored by the market and consumers. On average, the cooperative supplies about 120 tons of vegetables and fruits annually to markets in Thanh Hoa, Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Nghe An, etc. Annual revenue reaches 17 billion VND, with a profit margin of over 20%.”

Reportedly, after applying CNC technology to production, the Dong Tien Agricultural Mechanization Service Cooperative has built 11 greenhouses with a total area of approximately 3.5 hectares, growing Kim Hoang Hau melons, baby cucumbers, and other safe vegetables. In early 2024, the cooperative built nearly 2,000 square meters of additional greenhouses to receive technology transfer and put into production approximately 1,000 square meters of Phalaenopsis orchids to serve the market during the Lunar New Year. With its investment in tissue-cultured orchid seedling production, the Dong Tien Agricultural Mechanization Service Cooperative has demonstrated its superiority in applying CNC technology to production.

The application of CNC technology in agricultural production has also been implemented by Tho Thanh General Service Cooperative (Thuong Xuan) for nearly 5 years. The cooperative applies CNC technology to the cultivation of Kim Hoang Hau yellow melons and safe vegetables and fruits in greenhouses according to VietGAP standards. 100% of the cooperative's production area utilizes CNC technology, from seed selection, sowing, seedling cultivation, to commercial planting. Thanks to a constant focus on clean, safe, and high-yield production while reducing labor costs, investment in greenhouses, polytunnels, and irrigation technology is a top priority. Ms. Hoang Thi Lai, a member of the cooperative, said: "Since the cooperative applied CNC technology to agricultural production, the production level and income of its members have improved. Not only do we participate in training and technology transfer, but producers also gain access to modern production thinking and build sustainable supply chains linked to product traceability." Thanks to the application of CNC technology and greenhouse/net house systems, the products are less affected by the external environment, pests and diseases are reduced, and yields are higher than traditional production, receiving high praise from consumers and the market for their quality.”

In reality, along with the desire to widely develop the local agricultural products' strengths in the market, many other agricultural cooperatives in the province are also striving to assert their position by promoting the application of modern scientific and technical advancements in production. According to statistics from the Thanh Hoa Provincial Cooperative Union, as of September 2024, there were approximately 150 agricultural cooperatives, farms, and individual farmers applying high-tech methods to their production processes. This has led to the formation of large-scale agricultural production areas applying high-tech methods and value chains in the consumption of agricultural products. However, the application of high-tech methods in production in the province's agricultural cooperatives is still small-scale and scattered; trade promotion and market research activities for high-tech agricultural products in these cooperatives are not yet truly effective. Notably, the economic potential of the cooperatives is still weak, so they lack sufficient funds to invest in and equip the necessary technical facilities and infrastructure for the application of high-tech methods in production...

According to Le Hong Hai, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Cooperative Union: In recent times, the Provincial Cooperative Union has organized many training courses to help agricultural cooperatives access modern science and technology. At the same time, it encourages cooperatives to proactively learn and apply new technical advancements and high-tech methods to production, aiming to reduce costs, increase productivity, ensure food safety and quality, and protect the environment. In addition, the Provincial Cooperative Union has been disseminating information and guiding cooperatives to access capital from the Thanh Hoa Provincial Cooperative Development Support Fund, contributing to creating resources for cooperatives to invest in and develop production and business effectively.
