The total area for rat extermination in the city in 2026 is 214,145 hectares, including two rice crops and three concentrated vegetable and fruit crop seasons. In addition, depending on the specific situation, localities may expand the rat extermination area in converted land areas.
The timing of concentrated rat extermination is based on the seasonal schedule. Phase 1: from land preparation and sowing/planting of spring rice (from January 10th to February 2nd, 2026); Phase 2: during the peak tillering period of spring rice (early March 2026); Phase 3: from the tillering and heading stage to the beginning of flowering (April 2026); Phase 4: from land preparation and sowing/planting of summer rice (approximately from the end of June to the beginning of July 2026); Phase 5: during the peak tillering stage of summer rice (early August 2026); Phase 6: from the tillering and heading stage to the beginning of flowering (from the end of August to mid-September 2026); Phase 7: land preparation for winter crop planting (October 2026); Phase 8: when winter crops are nearing harvest (December 2026).
For phases 1 and 4, in addition to applying manual methods to kill rats, localities must simultaneously organize rat extermination using bait across the entire area because baiting will be most effective in these two phases.
Other rat extermination campaigns throughout the year should be intensified with methods such as setting traps, removing water hyacinth from canals and ditches, clearing bushes, and hunting to improve rat control effectiveness and reduce environmental pollution.
The People's Committee of Hai Phong City will provide funding for the purchase of rat poison in phases 1 and 4. Phase 1 covers a total area of 102,969 hectares, while phase 4 will be implemented once funding is allocated by the competent authority.
