Norway is a very large market for Vietnamese shrimp products. Strengthening trade promotion activities will increase the trade turnover of aquatic products between Vietnam and Norway.

Sharing on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Food & Hospitality Hanoi 2025 Exhibition held on the morning of March 18 in Hanoi , Ms. Hilde Solbakken - Norwegian Ambassador to Vietnam - said that Norway is a very large market for Vietnamese shrimp products. The size of Vietnamese shrimp is larger than that of Norwegian shrimp, and Norwegian consumers also really like Vietnamese shrimp products. In addition to shrimp products, Norwegian consumers also really like Vietnamese coffee products. "Norway is currently the country that drinks the most coffee in the world . Therefore, this is a very potential market for Vietnamese coffee, " said Ms. Hilde Solbakken.

Bilateral trade between Norway and Vietnam has been growing steadily over the past 10 years but there is potential for further growth if Vietnam and Norway sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). This will create a long-term, stable and predictable framework for broad economic cooperation. This will open the door to new and effective cooperation in the blue and ocean economies, which will benefit both countries.

Promoting solutions to promote seafood exports between the two countries

“Currently, the Vietnamese aquaculture industry is moving from land to sea, and Norway is very willing to share its experience, aquaculture technology, and products related to vaccines and veterinary medicine with the Vietnamese aquaculture industry. Currently, there is a Norwegian vaccine and offshore aquaculture technology company in Vietnam,” Ms. Hilde Solbakken added.

Regarding seafood exports, Mr. Phung Duc Tien - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment - previously assessed that Vietnam has great potential to develop seafood, especially aquaculture, being the third largest seafood exporter in the world, accounting for over 7% of the world market share, behind only China and Norway. Seafood is considered one of the key industries of the country, contributing significant value to our country's economy as well as global logistics services.

Therefore, in parallel with opening the market for imported seafood, Vietnam also promotes seafood trade promotion activities to markets around the world. Actively participating in international trade promotion programs, creating connections with strategic partners, and applying financial solutions and specialized training will help the Vietnamese seafood industry not only maintain but also enhance its position in the global market.

NSC said it is currently expanding promotional activities through cooperation with supermarket chains, restaurants and e-commerce platforms to help consumers of the two countries access each other's products to increase two-way trade.
