Petitions named "self-respect and aspiration" in the border area

(Chinhphu.vn) - In the journey of building new rural areas and sustainable poverty reduction, in many remote border areas of the country, a special movement is emerging - the movement of "voluntarily writing applications to leave poverty". Each application is a proud declaration of the spirit of self-reliance and self-reliance of people in difficult areas, contributing to spreading a positive message about the will to rise up in life.

People in the border commune of Nhon Mai, Nghe An province voluntarily wrote a request to be removed from the list of poor households.

From the applications carrying the will to overcome difficulties

The border commune of Nhon Mai, Nghe An province, where the mountains and forests are dense and the people's lives are still difficult, is witnessing a welcome change. In recent years, thanks to the attention of the Party, the State and the local government, people's lives have gradually improved. In particular, the movement of "voluntarily leaving poor and near-poor households" is becoming a bright spot in sustainable poverty reduction work here.

According to the Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province, to achieve the goal of sustainable poverty reduction by 2025, Nhon Mai commune has synchronously deployed many solutions to support economic development and improve people's lives; at the same time, stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to promote the spirit of self-reliance, not to wait or rely on State policies.

Thanks to that, in the past time, in the commune, there have been 14 poor and near-poor households voluntarily writing applications to be removed from the list of poor households. Of which, Huoi To 1 village has 8 households, Huoi To 2 has 1 household, Pieng Mun has 3 households and Na Hang has 2 households. These are all households with a strong will to rise up, making efforts to develop production, livestock, and create stable jobs to assert their own capacity.

Ms. Nha Thi Loan (born in 1983), residing in Pieng Mun village, shared in her application: "In the past year, my family, a poor household, has received support from the Party and the State in developing production and supporting children's education... This year, the family's economy has become less difficult, I would like to leave the poor household to give support to those in more difficult circumstances."

Ms. Loan’s story is not unique. In Na Hang village, Mr. Lo Van Luyen (born in 1976) and Mr. Luong Van Nam (born in 1980) also voluntarily wrote a request to be removed from the list of poor households. After many years of hard work, they have invested in developing farming and livestock, gradually increasing their income and striving to stabilize their lives.

The petitions, though small, contain great spiritual strength. They are a source of pride and evidence of the change in people's thinking, from "passive" to "active".

According to the leaders of Nhon Mai commune, this result was achieved thanks to the strong leadership of the local Party Committee and government, along with the close coordination of departments, branches and organizations in propaganda, mobilization and livelihood support. Thereby, people gradually changed their awareness, actively participated in the new rural construction movement, contributing to the effective implementation of the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and economic development in border areas.

Currently, Nhon Mai is still a particularly difficult border commune, with more than 50% of households being poor. However, in the midst of difficulties, the spirit of self-reliance is being strongly aroused. Since October 2025, the commune has implemented a review of poor and near-poor households in 2026 according to the multidimensional poverty standards for the period 2026-2030. This is an important activity to ensure the right support for the right people, in the right circumstances, while encouraging the spirit of honesty and self-awareness of the people in declaring and participating in the review.

The commune government emphasized: Every honest information from the people today is an important step to help the community develop together. Fair - transparent - accurate review is the foundation for implementing effective poverty reduction policies in the new period.

Mr. Giang A So invested in rice milling machines and threshing machines. Along with that, he also developed a model of raising pigs and chickens... Up to now, his family's economy has been prosperous and his children have received a full education.

To a shining example of perseverance

Not only in Nghe An, that spirit of self-reliance also spreads to the remote border area of ​​Nam Ke commune, Dien Bien province, where the majority of Mong ethnic people live. Although there are still many shortages, with the poverty rate reaching 46%, but here, there is a movement to compete to escape poverty sustainably.

One of the typical examples is Giang A So, residing in Huoi Het village. With a spirit of diligence and will to rise up, he has gradually changed his family's life. Without waiting or relying on support policies, he boldly invested in a rice milling machine and a rice threshing machine, both serving his family's production and helping the villagers. Along with that, he also developed a model of raising pigs and chickens combined with growing corn and vegetables, making the most of the available land and labor. Up to now, his family's economy has been prosperous, and his children have received a full education.

In particular, in 2025, he voluntarily wrote an application to escape poverty. He shared: "I know that poor households enjoy many preferential policies from the Party and the State such as health care, education, loans... but around me there are still many more difficult circumstances that need help. Therefore, I asked to escape poverty to give that opportunity to them."

Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, Chairman of Nam Ke Commune People's Committee, said: We highly appreciate Giang A So's spirit of self-reliance. The commune government has directly given gifts to encourage and commend his family; hoping that he will continue to promote his pioneering role, set an example for others to follow, and together build Nam Ke to become more and more developed, prosperous and happy.

According to Mr. Thanh, examples like Giang A So have a very strong influence in the community. Not only do they help people change their mindset of "being poor to receive support", but they also arouse the desire to get rich legitimately, building an independent and sustainable life in their homeland.

The spirit of "self-reliance"

The voluntary movement to escape poverty in border communes such as Nhon Mai (Nghe An) or Nam Ke (Dien Bien) is carrying profound social significance. Each application is not only a self-affirmation, but also a message of belief, self-respect and will to rise up of people in disadvantaged areas.

These examples are contributing to gradually eliminating the mentality of waiting and relying, replacing it with the spirit of proactive economic development, self-employment and mutual support for progress. That is also the foundation for successfully implementing the goal of sustainable poverty reduction set by the Party and State in the new period.
