Mr. Nguyen Huu Quang, Chairman of the Trade Union of Sakurai Co., Ltd., grasped the thoughts and recommendations of workers through the union group leaders.

At the end of her shift, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ai, President of the Trade Union of Sunjade Shoes Company Ltd., Le Mon Industrial Park, took the opportunity to organize a legal consultation session for workers, with the topic "Should I wait to receive my pension or receive social insurance at once?"

More than 20 workers attended, including Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung, who has worked in the industry for 15 years. Due to poor health, Ms. Nhung planned to retire early but was worried about having to wait another 10 years to receive her pension. The atmosphere of the consultation session became lively when Ms. Ai and the propaganda team created an illustrative skit. The story of two colleagues of the same age, one receiving social insurance at a time, the other waiting to receive her pension, helped viewers easily visualize the results of each choice. "Each person has a different situation, the union only guides them so that they understand their rights and make appropriate decisions," Ms. Ai shared.

Sunjade Shoes Company Limited currently has nearly 9,800 employees, of which 80% are female. The company's union coordinated with the management to launch the movement "Sunjade Shoes workers build a safe and effective working environment", helping to raise awareness of discipline, reducing the rate of violations of internal regulations from 0.18% to 0.09%/year. Along with that, the union and the company focus on taking care of the lives of workers: increasing attendance allowance to 280,000 VND, supporting gasoline, accommodation, meal allowances, childcare allowances and visiting workers in difficulty every month.

At the end of September, Ms. Le Thi Hanh, a worker at Factory 4, Sakurai Co., Ltd., Le Mon Industrial Park, suddenly received a decision to terminate her labor contract after more than 10 years of working. The cause stemmed from conflicts during the working process. Based on a one-sided report, the company decided to discipline and terminate her contract.

Knowing the situation, Mr. Nguyen Huu Quang, Chairman of the Sakurai Company Limited Trade Union, proactively went to the boarding house where Ms. Hanh lived to find out the details. After listening to her presentation, he continued to work with the production team leader, the human resources department and the legal department to verify. The results showed that the company did not comply with the disciplinary procedures and regulations on contract termination. On that basis, Mr. Quang, on behalf of the union, drafted a document requesting the board of directors of Sakurai Company Limited to reconsider the decision, and specifically cited the provisions of the 2019 Labor Code. After the dialogue, the company admitted its mistakes, canceled the disciplinary decision and compensated Ms. Hanh an amount of money corresponding to the time she lost her job. Each story and each situation is different, but they all have one thing in common: when employees understand the law, they will know how to protect themselves. When the union is with them, they will be confident in their work and stay with them for a long time.

As a union official, Mr. Nguyen Huu Quang always maintains a spirit of learning, listening and being close to the workers. At Sakurai Co., Ltd., regular dialogues between workers and the board of directors are maintained regularly. “I believe that dialogue and transparency are the foundation for building a real collective labor agreement, harmonizing the interests between the enterprise and the workers. Therefore, even when the management staff has an unqualified attitude or causes difficulties in resolving the regime, I always frankly state it in the dialogues and request timely handling,” said Mr. Quang.

Currently, Sakurai Co., Ltd. is one of the province's largest garment enterprises, with more than 12,800 employees, of which 98% are female. To deepen the union work, Mr. Quang has built a systematic network of activities, assigning 19 executive committee members to be in charge of each factory, each factory has 12 union groups. The group leaders directly grasp the thoughts and suggestions of the workers to report, helping to direct and handle them in a timely and practical manner. At the same time, he directs the building of strong union groups, where union members understand the law, unite and know how to protect their legitimate rights. Every year, the union summarizes and rewards outstanding collectives and individuals in production and movements.

The province currently has more than 310,000 union members, workers, civil servants and laborers, of which nearly 95% work in the production and business sectors. Identifying political, ideological and legal propaganda and education as a key task, the Provincial Labor Federation has strengthened the team of reporters and legal propagandists. At the same time, focusing on directing trade unions at all levels to proactively propagate the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws, especially regulations directly related to workers such as the Labor Law, Trade Union Law, Social Insurance Law, Health Insurance Law... Since the beginning of the year, more than 660,000 union members and workers have been disseminated and studied these documents. Propaganda activities are increasingly diverse and flexible in many forms: training, dialogue, legal advice, competitions, cultural and sports exchanges, and propaganda on social networks. Many effective models have been implemented such as “Workers’ Cultural Corner”, 3V model (“For Workers - For Trade Unions - For Enterprises”), workers’ festivals, workers’ weeks or legal propaganda dramatization. In the coming time, trade unions at all levels will continue to strongly innovate the content and methods of propaganda, choosing appropriate forms for each enterprise; at the same time, building a team of steadfast and dedicated reporters, encouraging union members and workers to self-study, self-train, improve their qualifications, skills and legal knowledge.
