"The greatest pain of my life" is the phrase Paul Pogba used to describe the blackmail scandal involving his own brother, Mathias.
"I tried to keep this a secret. My wife and children didn't know. I had to suppress everything and the pain was gnawing at me. I tried to focus on football, but it was too much to bear. Two-hour training sessions couldn't help me escape reality. After each training session, I tried to stay with my teammates as long as possible. Gradually, my body and mind were affected. That's why I couldn't return to my peak," the former Manchester United star shared.

According to the 2018 World Cup winner, it all started on March 19, 2022, when Paul returned to his hometown in Roissy-en-Brie. After a meal, the 1993-born player was picked up by a group of friends and driven to an apartment in Seine-et-Marne. There, these people claimed to have protected Pogba for many years and demanded that the French international pay 13 million euros.
Before Pogba could understand what was happening, a man pointed a gun at his head. Faced with a life-or-death situation, Pogba had no choice but to back down and pay. However, the ordeal didn't end there.
In July 2022, Pogba left MU to join Juventus. However, he continued to face pressure from unknown individuals right at the Turin team's training center.
Upon learning that his brother Mathias was among those blackmailing him, Paul reported it to the police in July 2022. In August, Mathias further shocked the public by posting videos accusing his brother of using black magic to influence Manchester United and Kylian Mbappe.
Shortly afterwards, Mathias was sentenced to one year in prison, while his childhood friends received sentences ranging from two to eight years.
