Rise from the movement, grow by association

More than 25 years ago, taking advantage of the abundant flower and fruit growing areas, Mr. Le Loc Quan chose his own path of beekeeping for honey. From learning the trade to accumulating experience, he proactively linked beekeeping households, standardized techniques to stabilize honey sources and aimed for export.

In 2015, Quan Phat Honey Facility was established with a processing workshop of over 1,000m² and a bee farm of 2,000m². The facility creates stable jobs for many workers; a regular network of over 120 households is expanding across beekeeping areas. "Beekeeping is not difficult, but it requires a systematic approach, good breeds, arrangement of colonies according to flowering seasons, pest management, and hygiene during the extraction process to ensure stable honey quality" - Mr. Quan shared.

To develop products for the market, Quan Phat Honey Facility has cooperated to help many households have a sustainable income. Mr. Nguyen Dinh Cu (Dau Giay Commune) said: My family is supported by the facility with technical and food costs to exploit honeycombs, and at the same time, the output is guaranteed, thanks to which we have a stable income of about 30-40 million VND per month. We are assured because thanks to learning modern, scientific beekeeping techniques and having a stable output. That is the motivation for beekeepers to be more enthusiastic and develop their brands in the market.

Not only exploiting, Mr. Quan also invested in research to diversify honey products; at the same time building brands, standardizing packaging, and opening distribution channels. In terms of technique, the facility focuses on grafting natural colonies at the right time, adjusting demand appropriately according to the flower season; exploiting at the right maturity, and strictly cleaning equipment. Sharing the secret, Mr. Quan said that if the process from the colony to the workshop is followed correctly, the high quality honey and distinctive flavor will last a long time.

Expanding export markets

Each year, the output of Quan Phat Honey Facility is estimated at 35 thousand boxes of honeycomb, 1 thousand tons of honey; products are consumed domestically and exported to Japan, Korea, Taiwan, America, and Europe.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thoi, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Dau Giay Commune, commented: "Mr. Quan's beekeeping export linkage model shows that the market is still very large, as long as quality standards and clear traceability are maintained."

The emulation movement launched by the Vietnam Farmers' Association has gone into depth in Dong Nai such as: propaganda, technology transfer, capital and material support, promoting collective economy, associated with the construction of advanced new rural areas. Many households from having enough to eat have risen to become well-off, rich, gradually mastering the production and consumption chain of agricultural products. The example of farmer Le Loc Quan is typical. Mr. Quan has spread the spirit of changing thinking, knowing how to connect and standardize processes to participate in large markets.

The beekeeping chain not only creates a sustainable livelihood for farmers but also preserves pollinating bee populations, contributing to increasing the productivity and quality of fruit trees, aiming at the goal of both agricultural benefits and environmental benefits. From the Farmers' Association movement to the export chain, Mr. Le Loc Quan's story is a testament to the new generation of farmers: renewing their thinking, getting rich with specialized knowledge and technology.

In addition to efforts to develop technology and markets, Mr. Quan expressed his hope that the authorities would strengthen the control of residues in agricultural production to ensure clean and stable raw materials for the honey industry, especially when targeting high-end markets. This is also a key requirement for the Vietnamese honey chain to maintain the trust of domestic and foreign consumers.
