Applying technology - enhancing the value of agricultural products
In a 2.6-hectare greenhouse in Ma Sra village, Ta Nang commune, Mr. Phan Kim Hiep and his workers are busy harvesting tomatoes. The clusters of red, uniform fruit are carefully pruned and packed in boxes to be shipped to Ho Chi Minh City under a long-term consumption contract. This is the result after more than 2 years of Mr. Hiep boldly investing in a high-tech agricultural model - growing tomatoes in a closed greenhouse, drip irrigation and production according to VietGAP process. After only 2 months of planting, the tomatoes gave the first crop of fruit and were harvested continuously for 4 months. Thanks to the arrangement of overlapping production between the areas, each month, Mr. Hiep sells about 60 tons of tomatoes, with a stable price of 14,000 - 15,000 VND/kg, creating regular jobs for 20 local workers. “Farming nowadays cannot depend on the weather. Applying technology helps me to be completely proactive in production. Greenhouses and drip irrigation help save water, reduce costs and increase productivity,” Mr. Hiep shared.
The main source of income for Ta Nang people comes from agricultural production. The commune has more than 8,700 hectares of agricultural land, of which 500 hectares are for high-tech production and smart agriculture. The locality identifies high-tech agriculture as a pillar of rural economic development, associated with the New Rural Development program and increasing people's income. The commune aims to expand the area of greenhouses, net houses, and water-saving irrigation systems; encourage the planting of vegetables, flowers, and fruit trees with high economic value according to VietGAP and organic standards and connect the consumption chain. Along with that, it is necessary to build cooperatives and cooperatives linked with enterprises, creating stable output and increasing the value of Ta Nang agricultural products.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dien - Secretary of the Party Committee of Ta Nang Commune said that high-tech and smart agriculture not only helps increase productivity and quality but also opens up a direction for sustainable development. The government will continue to encourage farmers to cooperate and expand modern models, linking production with consumption to enhance the brand of local agricultural products.
Green, clean, beautiful countryside
According to the report on the New Rural Development Program in 2025, Lam Dong's agricultural sector grows by an average of 5.6% per year, with the average income of people in rural areas reaching 59.9 million VND/person/year. The whole province has nearly 1,000 OCOP products, most of which come from high-tech production models, applying smart processes and linking value chains. Specialized production areas for vegetables, flowers, coffee, durian, and tea are simultaneously applying technology: drip irrigation systems, humidity and nutrient sensors, climate-controlled greenhouses, electronic traceability, and even selling agricultural products via digital platforms.
These advances help reduce costs, increase productivity by 20-30%, while limiting environmental impacts and adapting to climate change. Many cooperatives and businesses have implemented the Circular Agriculture model, utilizing by-products as organic fertilizers, reducing emissions and moving towards green development. At the same time, Lam Dong is forming a smart agricultural tourism chain, where visitors can experience harvesting vegetables, flowers, coffee, and learn about greenhouse growing technology. The "Experiential Farm" model is contributing to promoting agricultural product brands, while opening up more directions for service economic development for rural residents. The province continues to promote digital transformation in agriculture, building a database of growing areas, agricultural product maps and e-commerce platforms.
This is an inevitable step for Lam Dong agriculture to increase value, expand markets, and move towards a new model rural area associated with technology and knowledge.
